About The Position

The Senior Context Engineer is a hands-on software engineer who builds and maintains reusable context assets that support BDO Advantage’s AI-native product and process development. The role writes, tests, reviews, and ships production code in C#/.NET and/or Python on the Advantage Azure platform. It also develops skill files, agent-instruction files (CLAUDE.md and equivalents), prompt and context patterns, and retrieval-grounding corpora according to team standards. The engineer encodes assurance domain knowledge into structured, retrievable, governed formats and integrates it into working applications. The role works independently on well-scoped problems with general direction, collaborates with AI engineers and product teams, and contributes to the quality and reuse of the firm’s context infrastructure. It reports to the Context Engineering Manager and operates within the Advantage SDLC, firm policies, and security standards. The position includes informal guidance to junior engineers as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • At least three years of hands-on professional software development experience building, testing, and deploying production applications or services in C#/.NET or Python.
  • At least one year of experience building LLM-powered features—such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent tooling, or prompt and context systems—that reached production users.
  • Experience deploying and operating services on Microsoft Azure.
  • Proficiency in C#/.NET or Python, including writing automated tests.
  • Working knowledge of Git-based workflows, pull-request review, and CI/CD pipelines such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure AI services, including Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search.
  • Understanding of LLM prompting, context windows, retrieval, and grounding concepts.
  • Ability to design, build, debug, and ship working software with minimal supervision and explain technical decisions clearly in a live, hands-on setting.
  • Solid knowledge of context engineering, retrieval, and grounding fundamentals.
  • Ability to work independently on well-scoped problems with general direction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to accuracy and quality.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate and give and receive feedback.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to build relationships across teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%; no relocation required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Information Technology.
  • Experience building reusable components or working within established engineering standards.
  • Experience in professional services, assurance, or accounting industries.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals or Azure AI Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
  • Experience with retrieval and vector technologies, including embeddings, indexing, and hybrid search.
  • Familiarity with agent-instruction and skill systems (CLAUDE.md and equivalents), agentic development tooling (Claude Code or equivalent), and Markdown-based knowledge structures.
  • Familiarity with Azure Container Apps, Semantic Kernel, and Dapr.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, and ship production code in C#/.NET and/or Python that integrates governed context, retrieval, and agent capabilities into Advantage applications.
  • Build and maintain services, APIs, and tooling that load, validate, version, and serve context assets to agents and applications running on Azure Container Apps and Azure AI Foundry.
  • Work in Git-based workflows with pull requests, automated tests, and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub, and use agentic development tooling such as Claude Code or an equivalent as part of daily delivery.
  • Participate in code and context reviews and incorporate feedback.
  • Build and maintain reusable context assets, including skill files, agent-instruction files, and prompt and context patterns, following team standards.
  • Encode BDO assurance domain knowledge into structured, retrievable formats with appropriate metadata and provenance.
  • Apply established context-as-code conventions, inheritance, and versioning practices.
  • Implement and maintain retrieval pipelines, including document parsing, chunking, embeddings, indexing, hybrid search, and metadata filtering using Azure AI Search and vector stores.
  • Curate retrieval corpora and manage their freshness, versioning, and quality.
  • Write grounding and retrieval evaluation tests and measure accuracy, latency, and cost.
  • Run context and grounding evaluations and improve quality across features.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers and product teams to integrate governed context into applications.
  • Contribute to team documentation and support citizen-engineer enablement.
  • Follow firm security, privacy, and compliance standards, including SOC 2, PCAOB AS 2201, QC 1000, and ISO 27001, when building application code and context assets.
  • Ensure sensitive or restricted data does not enter prompts, corpora, or model context, and maintain traceability of grounded knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and willingly accept a share of less desirable assignments.
  • Provide informal guidance to junior engineers, as assigned.
