About The Position

As a Senior Consultant, Business Controls, reporting to the Director, Business Controls - CIBC Global Asset Management, you will act as a trusted partner and risk advisor to the CAO Functional Group supporting CIBC Global Asset Management (GAM). In this role, you will help these groups achieve their strategic priorities while maintaining a strong control environment and proactive operational risk management. You will lead risk assessments such as Change Initiative Risk Assessments (CIRA), Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), and Regulatory Group Topic (RGT) Assessments for the GAM Line of Business. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing the management of controls, proactively identifying and addressing deficiencies, guiding remediation activities, and serving as the primary relationship manager for the GAM portfolio. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

Requirements

  • Experience in or knowledge of banking and associated risks and controls.
  • Additional experience in risk or governance function in a bank or in audit—whether from leading audit firms or through internal audit roles at financial institutions—is considered a valuable asset.

  • Current accreditation and good standing as a CPA /CIA/ MBA or pursuing a relevant designation or have a relevant business degree for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted partner and risk advisor to the CAO Functional Group supporting CIBC Global Asset Management (GAM).
  • Help these groups achieve their strategic priorities while maintaining a strong control environment and proactive operational risk management.
  • Lead risk assessments such as Change Initiative Risk Assessments (CIRA), Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), and Regulatory Group Topic (RGT) Assessments for the GAM Line of Business.
  • Oversee the management of controls, proactively identifying and addressing deficiencies, guiding remediation activities, and serving as the primary relationship manager for the GAM portfolio.
  • Manage key relationships and collaborate with business partners, 2nd and 3rd lines of defense for all matters relating to operational risk.
  • Manage relationships at peer or director level, as well as project/initiative managers within the assigned Lines of Business (LOBs).
  • Represent Business Controls on key business initiatives.
  • Work closely with the LOB partners to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps.
  • Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps and determine materiality.
  • Propose recommendations to mitigate risk exposures/control gaps.
  • Lead the Incident Reporting investigation for CIBC Global Asset Management and Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) process, ensuring all material risks are identified and compliant to the CIBC CIRA policy and process.
  • Manage all deficiencies for the LOB, ensuring closure dates are met and no deficiencies go past due.
  • Lead the implementation of remediation plans for targeted control gaps/special projects.
  • Lead the completion of all CIBC Control Framework requirements.
  • Act as the risk and control Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing expert advice to LOB partners.
  • Lead all Internal Audits, Compliance exams for the business.
  • Provide ongoing management of self-assessment processes.
  • Participate in larger more complex business, governance and regulatory projects to identify risk and control issues, recommend solutions and develop control requirements.
  • Proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps.
  • Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps.
  • Proactively assess and recommend self-assessed deficiencies.
  • Propose recommendations to mitigate risk exposures and control gaps.
  • Understand and communicate the Control Framework requirements to LOB partners to ensure they understand and are aware of accountabilities.
  • Lead the completion of all requirements including: Risk and Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA), Scenarios, Deficiency Management, Key Risk Indicators, Incident reporting, Regulatory Compliance Incident (RCIs) reporting, etc.
  • Act as the SOX Officer/Maintenance Officer (SOMO) for Operational Process Controls (OPC) and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) controls.
  • Develop and recommend new/changes to Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities (KAR) and formal key Control and Non-Key Control testing programs.
  • Develop reporting and summarize control testing results in preparation for LOB/Executive reviews and sign-off processes.
  • Peer mentoring and indirect people leadership influencing, coaching and negotiation with LOB, 2nd and 3rd Line of Defense.
