About The Position

This position serves as the primary investigator on fatality and other complex enforcement inspections, working mainly in the field. It involves independently performing complex and comprehensive industrial hygiene and occupational safety inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with adopted OSHA standards. The role also provides occupational health and safety compliance assistance to Ohio public employers and employees, identifying existing or potential safety and health hazards and/or facilitating compliance with adopted Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards in Ohio Revised Code & Ohio Administrative Code chapter 4167. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace. This position may require travel and the ability to provide one's own transportation or legally operate a state-owned vehicle. Educational transcripts are required for screening.

Requirements

• 12 months experience citing, interpreting, & applying Federal OSHA regulations & standards
• 12 months experience conducting air, noise, & chemical monitoring & sampling using related industrial hygiene equipment (e.g., dosimeters, sound-level meter, air sampling pumps, velometer, electrical circuit test equipment, direct reading air monitoring devices, & other equipment)
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene safety practices, laws, rules & regulations
• Knowledge of interviewing techniques & procedures
• Knowledge of investigative/inspection techniques & procedures
• Knowledge of employee training & development
• Knowledge of PERRP policies & procedures
• Knowledge of natural sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology) & physical science
• Knowledge of public relations
• Knowledge of 1910, 1926 & 1928 OSHA Standards
• Knowledge of consensus standards (e.g., ANSI, NEC, NFPA)
• Knowledge of Agency procedures
• Knowledge of OSHA letters of interpretations, compliance directives, FOM
• Knowledge of sampling equipment calibration
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling protocols
• Skill in use of PC and peripheral equipment (e.g., fax, scanner, laptop)
• Skill in use of MS Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
• Skill in use of equipment operations [e.g., calculator, direct reading instruments (i.e., sound-level meter, octave band analyzer, single & multi-gas meters, velometer), & other equipment needed] to perform most complex sampling & testing
• Skill in citing, interpreting & applying Federal OSHA regulations & standards
• Skill in citing, interpreting & applying Consensus Standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, NEC)
• Skill in technical writing
• Skill in conducting research on industrial or environmental health & safety hazards
• Skill in interpersonal communication (listening, writing, reading, body language)
• Skill in addressing various audiences & adaptation to those audiences
• Skill in handling multiple projects & prioritizing based on many variables
