About The Position

This position is responsible for day-to-day supervisory activities in the DOH-Seminole clinic, which administers Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and HIV programs, School Physicals, and Immunizations. Under the direction of the Executive Community Health Nursing Director, this role involves significant supervisory responsibilities including communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, as well as planning and directing their work. The incumbent has the authority to make hiring and disciplinary recommendations. Key duties include developing performance expectations, conducting performance reviews, managing schedules to ensure coverage, and completing timesheets. The Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor oversees direct clinic operations, attends interagency meetings to improve service delivery, develops and implements clinic policies and procedures, completes reports, conducts quality improvement activities, and may assist as a nurse in the clinic when needed. The role also involves motivating staff, advising on professional growth, addressing performance issues, documenting performance, monitoring lab requirements, and approving leave and attendance records. Ensuring adherence to State procedures, HIPPA guidelines, and client confidentiality is crucial. The position also involves planning staff meetings, continuing education, and trainings, assisting with new employee orientation, participating in outreach events, and supporting public health emergencies and preparedness initiatives.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of interviewing; data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of advanced nursing principles including health assessment, physical exam, and medication prescription.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to TB, Refugee Health and other programs as assigned.
  • Ability to understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Federal and Florida Statutes.
  • Ability to provide customer service in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently, plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and problem solving techniques.
  • Computer skills including word processing, data entry and sending and reviewing emails.
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using Health Management System (HMS) and the Florida State Health Online Tracking System (FL SHOTS).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Addressing performance problems through corrective action and progressive disciplinary actions.
  • Documenting performance consistent with DOH policies and procedures and keeping written records of performance problems.
  • Monitoring all lab requirements and responsible staff.
  • Reviewing and approving leave and attendance records.
  • Approving requests for various types of leave and flexible work schedules.
  • Ensuring adherence to State procedures, HIPPA guidelines, and protecting client rights and confidentiality.
  • Reviewing and communicating DOH policies, protocols, and procedures relating to information security and confidentiality.
  • Planning one-on-one staff meetings, conference attendance, continuing education opportunities, and trainings.
  • Assisting with orientation for new employees.
  • Participating in outreach events to promote DOH-Seminole services.
  • Performing other related duties assigned to support the mission of the Florida Department of Health.
  • Assisting with nursing oversight during public health emergencies.
  • Participating in shelter training.
  • Assisting with organization of yearly shelter walk through visits.
  • Assisting the Executive Community Health Nursing Director with ensuring the readiness of medication supply for Special Needs.
