We are seeking a dynamic innovator to lead the robotics and automation development at the world-class automated science laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University, covering both biological and chemical science. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced and innovative setting. In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing the automation of lab experiments, covering machine vision, manipulation, mobility, navigation as well as AI / ML. In this role, you will lead high-impact initiatives, develop novel algorithms, and advance technologies that will transform industries and redefine the future of robotics.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineer or similar discipline; Ph.D. preferred.
  • 10 years or more of relevant experience in a robotics R&D environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one area of robotics (e.g. perception, control, software systems, electronics, etc.)
  • Successful pre-employment background check

  • Ph.D. preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead major aspects of projects from start to finish as technical lead, co-PI or PI
  • Provide innovative solutions to technical challenges on projects
  • Lead discussions with sponsors and generation of presentation material
  • Support business development
  • Manage engineers and assign tasks to engineers on projects
  • Lead design, development, and testing of complex robotics systems
  • Lead analysis of requirements, systems, and system performance
  • Administrative functions including project financials
  • May require short travel to meet potential sponsors
  • Other duties as assigned, based upon the needs of the department
