About The Position

Watson Refrigeration is seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Rack Refrigeration Service Technician with proven expertise in supermarket rack systems. This role requires an individual who can independently diagnose, service, and repair complex rack refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate understands the entire system, can troubleshoot difficult problems autonomously, and is capable of responding effectively when a supermarket's refrigeration system fails. Watson Refrigeration offers top-of-the-market compensation for technicians with significant rack experience and the ability to bring value to the team. Candidates should reside within approximately 40 miles of Raleigh, North Carolina, or be willing to relocate.

Requirements

• Significant hands-on experience servicing supermarket or other large commercial refrigeration rack systems.
• The ability to independently diagnose complex rack, electrical, control, mechanical, and refrigerant-circuit problems.
• EPA Universal Certification.
• Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration principles, components, and operating sequences.
• Experience using refrigerant gauges, meters, recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, leak-detection equipment, and other standard diagnostic tools.
• The ability to read electrical diagrams, equipment schematics, and technical documentation.
• Strong brazing, piping, compressor replacement, and system start-up skills.
• A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to meet company insurance requirements.
• The judgment and confidence to make sound decisions independently in the field.
• The flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation.

• Experience with CO₂, glycol, secondary refrigeration, or other advanced systems.
• Compressor replacement, piping, brazing, evacuation, charging, and system commissioning experience.

• State or local refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical licenses.
• Experience leading complex repairs or mentoring other refrigeration technicians.

Responsibilities

• Independently diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial refrigeration rack systems.
• Respond to supermarket refrigeration emergencies and quickly identify the source of system failures.
• Troubleshoot parallel and distributed racks, compressors, condensers, evaporators, refrigerated cases, valves, piping, electrical components, controls, and refrigerant circuits.
• Diagnose suction, discharge, oil-management, defrost, temperature-control, airflow, and system-capacity issues.
• Work confidently with electronic controls, energy management systems, and rack controllers.
• Locate refrigerant leaks, complete repairs, evacuate systems, and properly charge equipment.
• Replace compressors, motors, contactors, relays, valves, piping, and other major system components.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
• Complete preventive maintenance and identify developing problems before they become costly emergencies.
• Clearly explain findings and repair recommendations to customers, dispatch, and management.
• Accurately complete service documentation and maintain assigned tools, vehicle, equipment, and inventory.
• Follow EPA regulations and all company and customer safety procedures.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service needs.
• Provide technical guidance to less-experienced technicians when needed.
