Senior Commercial Broker, Brokerage Intelligence

Harper•Atlanta, GA
•$150,000 - $200,000•Onsite

About The Position

This role focuses on translating expert commercial brokerage judgment into systems, training, and product recommendations that define how Harper brokers insurance. The core responsibility is to make the nuanced judgment of experienced brokers teachable, testable, and reusable across the organization. This position does not involve selling, originating insurance, managing a book of business, meeting sales quotas, closing customers, or making final account-level placement decisions. Instead, the Senior Commercial Broker will collaborate closely with product, engineering, operations, and insurance teams to build the underlying brokerage infrastructure. This includes developing workflows, setting standards for AI system evaluation, creating training programs to influence behavior, and establishing feedback loops for continuous improvement. Harper is building an AI-native brokerage, which requires expert judgment to be learnable by both people and systems. This role is based in New York and San Francisco.

Requirements

  • Substantial commercial brokerage, wholesale brokerage, or placement experience across complex small and middle-market accounts.
  • Experience building submission strategies and negotiating difficult terms.
  • Understanding of general liability, property, workers' compensation, commercial auto, umbrella, and specialty coverage.
  • Ability to turn tacit judgment into precise instructions, worked examples, and reviewable evaluations.
  • Skill in teaching experienced people and translating insurance practice for product and engineering partners.
  • Willingness to test assumptions against source evidence and change standards when evidence proves them wrong.
  • Curiosity about AI, comfort examining its failures, and motivation to make expert work more consistent and scalable.
  • Based in New York or San Francisco, or willing to relocate to one of these offices.

Nice To Haves

  • Excited to use brokerage expertise to build products, systems, and standards rather than personally produce accounts.
  • Comfortable with the idea that not every decision is deterministic.

Responsibilities

  • Encode brokerage judgment into clear workflows, decision standards, playbooks, examples, and escalation rules without losing critical nuance.
  • Define brokerage product requirements by identifying key brokerage problems, specifying what products need to understand, and recommending capabilities based on expert evidence.
  • Train and evaluate AI systems by building realistic cases, expected outcomes, grading standards, and failure examples, then reviewing AI behavior against evidence and expert judgment.
  • Design and evaluate brokerage workflows, ensuring information, decisions, exceptions, and handoffs are managed effectively within account processes.
  • Own the brokerage learning standard by creating content, cases, worked examples, decision standards, and effectiveness measures for teaching expert brokerage judgment.
  • Run the expert feedback loop by staying connected to frontline work, difficult cases, market responses, and user behavior to identify patterns and drive product, process, or training changes.
  • Set evidence standards to ensure recommendations and decisions are traceable to supporting documentation, communications, quotes, or market responses.
  • Raise the quality bar by identifying inconsistencies in judgment, incorrect AI outputs, or unclear instructions, and redesigning systems to ensure clarity and usability.
