Senior Cloud & Risk Platform Engineer - Vice President

Citi•Irving, TX
•$125,760 - $188,640

About The Position

The Applications Development Technology Lead Analyst is a senior-level role responsible for architecting and building robust, resilient, ultra-low-latency, high-performance services across Citi’s next-generation cloud stack. The position leads core systems analysis, design, and implementation of mission-critical services for Credit Risk and Market Risk platforms, turning quantitative models and complex risk analytics into scalable, real-time cloud microservices. The engineer partners with Risk Quantitative Analysts, Risk Managers, and Enterprise Architecture teams to deliver real-time analytics and risk capabilities. The role also champions AI-augmented software engineering, establishes engineering standards, resolves complex distributed-systems challenges, and provides technical mentorship. It includes responsibility for appropriately assessing and managing risks and controls, complying with applicable laws and policies, exercising sound ethical judgment, and transparently escalating and reporting control issues.

Requirements

  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in software engineering, distributed systems development, or applications architecture.
  • Deep expertise in Java (Java 17/21+), J2EE, Spring Boot, reactive frameworks, advanced multithreading, asynchronous I/O, low-latency processing, and memory optimization.
  • Strong working knowledge of Credit Risk and/or Market Risk concepts, such as counterparty credit risk, stress testing, exposure calculations, VaR, sensitivities, and scenarios.
  • Hands-on experience architecting cloud-platform microservices, with containerization and orchestration expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, or OpenShift.
  • Proficiency and enthusiasm for integrating AI coding assistants and agentic engineering tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Devin, and ChatGPT/LLM APIs.
  • Experience with distributed messaging and streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, Pulsar, or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs and gRPC services, and working with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL and distributed cache or NoSQL platforms such as Redis, Hazelcast, Cassandra, or MongoDB.
  • Background with testing frameworks such as JUnit 5, Mockito, Cucumber, and Testcontainers, and performance benchmarking tools such as JMeter or Gatling.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD automation tools such as Git, Tekton, Harness, or Jenkins, static analysis with SonarQube, and container security scanning.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical and risk concepts clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree or university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and deploy resilient, event-driven microservices and high-throughput computing pipelines on cloud infrastructure using containers, Kubernetes, and microservices.
  • Partner with Risk Quantitative Analysts, Risk Managers, and Enterprise Architecture teams to model, calculate, and stream real-time Credit Risk analytics, including PFE, exposure, counterparty risk, and limits, and Market Risk analytics, including VaR, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Promote AI-augmented engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Devin throughout the engineering lifecycle, including prototyping, boilerplate reduction, test synthesis, refactoring, and AI-driven code reviews.
  • Resolve architectural bottlenecks by evaluating distributed systems, multithreading, concurrency models, memory management, and enterprise data flows.
  • Establish standards for clean code, SOLID principles, automated CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, telemetry, and observability.
  • Advise and coach mid-level engineers and analysts, conduct design reviews, foster continuous learning, and accelerate delivery.
  • Assess risk in business and technical decisions; protect the firm's reputation, clients, and assets; comply with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies; exercise sound ethical judgment; and escalate, manage, and report control issues transparently.
