About The Position

Q-CTRL is seeking a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to support its Kubernetes-based SaaS platform, hardware division, and embedded deployments. The role is part of the Infrastructure team, which builds reliable, secure, and maintainable infrastructure to support the company’s quantum technology. The engineer will help develop infrastructure for diverse workloads and ensure processes are code-driven, automated, and optimized to keep operational complexity low. The position is based in Q-CTRL’s Santa Monica office and works closely with a team primarily located in Sydney, Australia. The successful candidate will use Infrastructure as Code and establish golden paths that help engineering teams deliver software safely and autonomously. The role also supports US-based research and engineering teams during their working hours and contributes to asynchronous collaboration through technical proposals, architecture decision records, and documentation.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of industry experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience running Kubernetes in production and deep familiarity with provisioning production-grade clusters.
  • Expert knowledge of public clouds and using Infrastructure as Code to build intuitive, self-service golden paths that enable engineering teams to ship safely and autonomously.
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of Linux distributions and strong system-level troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in software development, primarily Go and Python, and the ability to quickly understand application behavior from codebases with minimal context.
  • A pragmatic approach to system design that balances curiosity with maintainability and favors simple, sustainable patterns that minimize long-term operational debt.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant Kubernetes certifications, such as CKA, CKAD, or CKS.
  • Relevant public cloud certifications, such as AWS SAA/SAP or GCP ACE/PCA.
  • Familiarity with the CNCF and its projects.
  • Experience using GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux CD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-hours support for US-based research and engineering teams, and author technical proposals, ADRs, and documentation to support asynchronous alignment with the Sydney team.
  • Learn the software stack and use relevant experience to inform platform architecture, update code, and drive technical choices toward platform goals.
  • Keep Q-CTRL current with cloud best practices, advocate for a strong DevOps culture, and contribute to innovation in engineering workflows.
  • Develop toolchain support, including CI/CD pipelines, GitOps operators, ephemeral environments, vulnerability scanning, and automated Infrastructure as Code deployment tooling.
  • Help ensure applications are scalable, highly available, cloud-agnostic, and accessible through Zero Trust networking across public clouds and embedded client infrastructure.

Benefits

  • The role may be eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, equity, and other forms of compensation outside the targeted base salary range.
  • Flexibility.
  • Equity potential.
  • Competitive benefits.
