Staff Platform Engineer, Senior Vice President

AlixPartners
•$175,000 - $275,000•Hybrid

About The Position

AlixPartners is building an AI-native development platform to standardize how code is generated, verified, secured, deployed, and monitored across its Platforms portfolio. The Staff Platform Engineer works across infrastructure, delivery engineering, security, and developer experience to build and operate shared platform components—including infrastructure as code, delivery pipelines and gates, runtime, identity and network, security and compliance controls, telemetry and cost visibility, and the packaged development environment for AI-assisted engineering. This is a hands-on engineering position in which leadership is demonstrated through technical contributions. The engineer builds production infrastructure, implements multi-tenant isolation, strengthens pipeline and policy enforcement, and instruments production systems. Success is measured by whether other engineers can use the platform’s modules, pipelines, and patterns independently and reliably. The role uses AlixPartners’ hybrid work model. Travel is part of the position, with frequency varying according to client, team, and individual circumstances. Relocation assistance is not available. The position requires the ability to work full time in an office and remote environment and a willingness to work outside normal business hours when project or business needs arise.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, platform or infrastructure engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Hands-on expertise in fleet-scale infrastructure as code using Terraform or OpenTofu with Terragrunt or an equivalent, including module architecture, remote state, and multi-environment topology.
  • Demonstrated experience operating production multi-tenant Kubernetes platforms, including GitOps, network and admission policy, workload identity, and tenant isolation.
  • Experience building CI/CD as a shared platform using GitHub Actions or an equivalent, including reusable workflow contracts, fleet-scale branch protection, and enforced quality and security gates.
  • Strong hands-on command of cloud identity and network security on Azure, AWS, GCP, or a comparable hyperscaler, including workload identity federation, RBAC, private networking, WAF, and DNS.
  • Substantive experience with security and compliance as code, including scanning toolchains, policy engines, supply-chain controls such as signing, provenance and SBOM, and SOC2 or ISO 27001 control evidence.
  • Production observability experience with OpenTelemetry or an equivalent, including collector topology, SLOs and error budgets, alert routing, incident management, and fault injection.
  • Experience building and operating production application software as a software engineer in at least one of Go, Python, or TypeScript; fluency in testing strategy, code review, trunk-based delivery, and release management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and cross-functional product-team collaboration.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours when unique projects or needs arise.
  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment and to sit or stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.
  • Ability to become familiar with, promote, and abide by AlixPartners’ Core Values as defined by its Code of Conduct, and foster an inclusive environment with people at all organizational levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building platforms for consulting, advisory, or professional-services organizations, including client-isolation and data-residency requirements.
  • Familiarity with virtual-cluster and control-plane tools such as vcluster and Crossplane, and developer portals such as Backstage and Port.
  • Experience operating a platform used by AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, including sandboxing agent tooling.
  • Advanced certifications in cloud architecture, Kubernetes, or security, such as Azure Solutions Architect, CKA/CKS, or CISSP.
  • FinOps experience, including cost allocation, showback, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Enthusiasm for developer education demonstrated through internal guides, workshops, or internal tooling communities.

Responsibilities

  • Build the platform runtime, including a container-orchestrated runtime, client-engagement isolation, and module contracts inherited by products.
  • Design composable infrastructure as code at fleet scale, with clear input contracts and state boundaries, and publish versioned templates and images for core components.
  • Automate environment creation and destruction through pull-request workflows, including automated verification that resources have been removed.
  • Design federated, credential-free identity and network systems, including engagement-specific identities, audited just-in-time privileged access, and separate internal and external edges.
  • Provide standard telemetry, alerting, service-level objectives, fault-injection capabilities, and per-engagement cost attribution, including AI spend.
  • Build and operate shared delivery pipelines and a pluggable framework for quality, security, and AI-governance gates with block-on-fail enforcement.
  • Implement security and compliance as code, including release-blocking repository scanning, policy and admission control, signed and attested artifacts, audit trails, software bills of materials, and evidence for SOC2 and ISO 27001.
  • Package the AI-assisted development environment as a versioned deliverable and enforce coding-agent sandbox boundaries, including default-deny egress, short-lived credentials, and isolated shared runners.
  • Measure the platform using developer outcomes such as setup time, time to first commit, pipeline duration, gate false-positive rate, and adoption; improve controls when governance burden outweighs benefit and validate golden paths through personal use.
  • Build proofs of concept and technical evidence to inform architecture decisions concerning multi-tenancy, cloud posture, identity provider, and network edge.
  • Review designs and pull requests, document architecture decisions that constrain future options, and provide technical leadership on infrastructure, pipelines, and enforcement.
  • Drive adoption of platform standards and support product-team migrations by unblocking teams as they execute.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional product teams using Agile methodologies.
  • Promote and abide by AlixPartners’ Core Values and Code of Conduct and foster an inclusive environment.
