Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

UJET
•$150,000 - $175,000

About The Position

UJET is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, operate, and evolve the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure powering its cloud-native SaaS platform. The role owns foundational infrastructure for the engineering organization, including Kubernetes clusters, cloud networking, infrastructure automation, identity and access management, and shared infrastructure services. The position requires direct experience designing, building, operating, and troubleshooting complex cloud-based Kubernetes environments, rather than only deploying applications into existing clusters. The engineer will help ensure that GCP infrastructure is secure, scalable, reliable, observable, and cost-efficient. They will collaborate with Platform Engineering, SRE, and Security, contribute to architecture and technical design discussions, and mentor other engineers. The role also includes planning and executing infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and improvements while minimizing production risk. UJET describes the opportunity as a chance to work on challenging infrastructure problems at the foundation of a cloud-native SaaS platform, shape its GCP and Kubernetes architecture, and take direct ownership of the cloud environment powering a modern production platform. The annual US hiring range is $150,000–$175,000; actual placement depends on geographic location, experience, education, and skill level. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on production experience designing, provisioning, operating, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure.
  • Deep practical knowledge of GCP networking, including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, routing, Cloud NAT, Cloud DNS, and Cloud Load Balancing.
  • Experience managing GCP projects, IAM policies, service accounts, and infrastructure security configurations.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug production infrastructure problems involving multiple GCP services.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes clusters; GKE experience is preferred.
  • Direct experience provisioning, administering, upgrading, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and internals, including the control plane, worker nodes, scheduling, networking, services, ingress, storage, and resource management.
  • Experience managing node pools, autoscaling, resource requests and limits, cluster capacity, and Kubernetes version upgrades.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex Kubernetes infrastructure issues involving networking, DNS, node health, scheduling, resource pressure, and cluster-level failures.
  • Experience with kubectl, Helm, and Kubernetes monitoring and diagnostic utilities; deploying containerized applications into existing Kubernetes clusters alone does not meet the requirement.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience using Terraform to provision and manage production cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience developing reusable Terraform modules, managing remote state, and implementing safe infrastructure change processes.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Go, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Experience with Git-based infrastructure management workflows, code reviews, and automated validation.
  • Strong Linux systems administration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, routing, firewalls, and load balancing.
  • Ability to diagnose difficult infrastructure problems using logs, metrics, traces, packet-level analysis, and systematic debugging techniques.
  • Experience designing secure, resilient, and scalable production infrastructure.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship.
  • Must comply with legal and regulatory requirements and UJET policies and standards, report suspected violations or abuse, and complete SDPC training and role-specific responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • 8 or more years of professional engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience operating GKE clusters in large-scale, multi-cluster, or multi-region production environments.
  • Experience with GKE networking, Workload Identity, Gateway API, Ingress controllers, and cluster autoscaling technologies.
  • Experience designing multi-project GCP architectures with centralized networking, IAM governance, and infrastructure guardrails.
  • Experience operating Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized logging infrastructure.
  • Experience with Kubernetes infrastructure security, including RBAC, network policies, workload identity, and secrets management.
  • Experience performing major Kubernetes or GCP infrastructure migrations with minimal production disruption.
  • Experience with infrastructure cost optimization, capacity modeling, and cloud resource efficiency.
  • Experience supporting highly available SaaS platforms or distributed systems at significant production scale.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and improving engineering practices, reliability, maintainability, and infrastructure scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, operate, and maintain production GCP infrastructure, including GKE, VPC networking, load balancers, Cloud DNS, IAM, and related cloud services.
  • Own Kubernetes cluster architecture and lifecycle, including provisioning, upgrades, node pool management, autoscaling, networking, capacity planning, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain Terraform modules, infrastructure-as-code frameworks, and automated provisioning workflows.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, DNS, cloud services, and distributed systems.
  • Design and maintain GCP networking, including VPCs, subnetworks, firewall rules, routing, NAT, load balancing, and connectivity between services and environments.
  • Build and improve infrastructure observability using Prometheus, logging systems, metrics, alerting, and related monitoring tools.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure security controls, including IAM policies, service accounts, secrets management, and least-privilege access patterns.
  • Improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency across the GCP environment.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and architectural improvements while minimizing production risk.
  • Partner with Platform Engineering, SRE, and Security teams to establish scalable infrastructure patterns and clear technical ownership.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and architecture discussions, and mentor other engineers.
  • Diagnose production infrastructure incidents and implement sustainable improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain automated, repeatable, and maintainable infrastructure provisioning through Terraform.
