Senior Cloud Developer
About The Position
The Senior Cloud Developer builds cloud-based solutions for mission-critical applications, applying advanced subject-matter expertise to complex technical and business issues. The role leads the design, development, testing, and integration of scalable cloud platforms and subsystems, and collaborates with project managers and development partners to support effective delivery, deployment, operation, monitoring, and support of cloud engagements. The position may provide technical leadership and mentorship, participate in cross-functional initiatives, and exercise significant independent judgment in achieving objectives. The developer applies AI-assisted workflows throughout the software development lifecycle and helps improve those workflows over time. The role also evaluates new technologies, contributes to HPE Cloud Services offerings, and represents the engineering team in technical forums. This position is designated onsite, with an expectation of primarily working from an HPE office.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, and Go.
- Strong grounding in microservices architecture and building containerized services on Kubernetes.
- Experience building, deploying, and operating scalable, stateless REST APIs and web services on Kubernetes and/or public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Solid understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem, including autoscaling, and infrastructure and application observability.
- Experience contributing throughout every stage of the software development lifecycle.
- Experience designing and integrating polyglot systems across multiple platforms.
- Strong testing discipline, including test planning, automation, debugging, and tooling.
- Deep proficiency with Git and ability to establish and drive effective code-review practices.
- Proven record of mentoring engineers and helping plan and deliver complex, cross-team projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting architecture and design proposals to senior leaders.
- Hands-on expertise with AI-assisted software development lifecycle practices and workflows.
- Working knowledge of at least one AI coding assistant or agent environment.
- Experience with agents and sub-agents, and reusable skills or instructions that guide them.
- Initiative in adopting emerging AI capabilities in daily engineering work and product support, including monitoring and analyzing workflows to improve them over time.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with programming languages such as Rust.
- Deep knowledge of observability principles, including metrics, logs, and traces, and experience building products in that space.
- Experience with distributed data pipelines, streaming, or time-series systems.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD automation.
Responsibilities
- Lead solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration for complex, large-scale platforms and scalable, robust cloud subsystems.
- Review designs, test plans, and code against engineering standards and best practices, providing actionable feedback to improve quality and reduce risk.
- Analyze complex application, infrastructure, and data-processing problems and deliver maintainable solutions.
- Apply AI-assisted workflows across design, coding, testing, review, release, and support, and continuously improve those workflows.
- Represent the engineering team in technical forums and mentor and coach less-experienced engineers.
- Evaluate and introduce technologies and approaches that improve engineering effectiveness.
- Collaborate with project managers and development partners to support delivery, deployment, operation, monitoring, and support of cloud engagements.
- Contribute business-value expertise to development of service offerings for HPE's Cloud Services portfolio.
