Senior Cloud Developer
About The Position
The Senior Cloud Developer builds cloud-based solutions for mission-critical applications, creating end-to-end technical solutions that address customer needs. The role contributes advanced subject-matter expertise to complex technical and business issues, partners with functional and technical project teams, and may lead and mentor other engineers. Work includes designing, developing, testing, integrating, deploying, operating, monitoring, and supporting scalable cloud platforms and services. The position leads engineering work on complex, large-scale platforms and applies AI-assisted practices throughout the software development lifecycle. It also represents the engineering team in technical forums, evaluates new technologies, and helps improve engineering effectiveness. The role is designated onsite, with the expectation of primarily working from an HPE office.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, and Go.
- Strong grounding in microservices architecture and building containerized services on Kubernetes.
- Experience building, deploying, and operating scalable, stateless REST APIs and web services on Kubernetes and/or a public cloud such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Solid understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem, including autoscaling, and of infrastructure and application observability.
- Experience contributing at every stage of the software development lifecycle.
- Experience designing and integrating polyglot systems across multiple platforms.
- Strong testing discipline, including test planning, automation, debugging, and tooling.
- Deep proficiency with Git and ability to establish and drive effective code-review practices.
- Proven record of mentoring engineers and helping plan and deliver complex, cross-team projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting architecture and design proposals to senior leaders.
- Hands-on expertise with AI-assisted software development lifecycle practices and workflows.
- Working knowledge of at least one AI coding assistant or agent environment.
- Experience with agents and sub-agents, and reusable skills or instructions that guide them.
- Initiative in adopting emerging AI capabilities in daily engineering work and product support, including monitoring and analyzing workflows to improve them over time.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with languages beyond Python, Java, and Go, such as Rust.
- Deep knowledge of observability principles, including metrics, logs, and traces, and experience building products in that space.
- Experience with distributed data pipelines, streaming, or time-series systems.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD automation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex, large-scale platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration of scalable and robust cloud subsystems.
- Review designs, test plans, and code for alignment with engineering standards and best practices, providing clear and actionable feedback to improve quality and reduce risk.
- Analyze complex application, infrastructure, and data-processing problems and deliver sound, maintainable solutions.
- Apply AI-assisted workflows across design, coding, testing, review, release, and support, and continuously improve those workflows.
- Represent the engineering team in technical forums.
- Mentor and coach less-experienced engineers.
- Evaluate and introduce technologies and approaches that improve the team's engineering effectiveness.
