About The Position

The Senior Cloud Data Ops Engineer is responsible for performance tuning, cloud platform operations, automation, and reliability for mission-critical relational and time-series data systems across multiple clouds. The role combines hands-on DBA expertise in SQL Server, Postgres (including TimescaleDB), and Oracle with cloud-native skills in GCP and AWS. The engineer performs database installation, configuration, patching, backup and recovery, high availability and disaster recovery, security hardening, performance diagnosis, and workload optimization. The position supports database lifecycle management across on-premises, GCVE, and cloud-native platforms, and partners with application, analytics, and engineering teams. The role operates and optimizes CloudSQL, BigQuery, AWS RDS/Aurora, and GCVE-hosted SQL Server; supports migrations to managed cloud services; and implements observability and operational readiness across cloud platforms. It also involves Linux systems administration and tuning, automation and infrastructure tooling, and participation in on-call rotations for critical data systems.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on DBA experience with SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, and TimescaleDB.
  • Deep proficiency in SQL, performance tuning, indexing, execution plan analysis, and workload optimization.
  • Experience operating databases in GCP (CloudSQL, BigQuery, GCE/GCVE) and/or AWS (RDS/Aurora).
  • Solid Linux skills, including bash scripting and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as pg_stat views, Query Store, Cloud Monitoring, CloudWatch, Zabbix, or Datadog.
  • Ability to support mission-critical production systems in a multi-cloud environment.
  • Strong understanding of DBA fundamentals applied in cloud-native and time-series contexts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Terraform, Azure DevOps (ADO), or other CI/CD/IaC tooling.
  • Exposure to EKS, GKE, or other Kubernetes platforms.
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized database operations.
  • Experience with OCI or Oracle Cloud services.
  • Background in cloud migration, modernization, or hybrid cloud architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, patch, back up, restore, secure, and support high availability and disaster recovery for SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, and TimescaleDB.
  • Diagnose and tune database performance using execution plans, indexing strategies, wait-event analysis, and I/O profiling.
  • Optimize relational and time-series workloads, including TimescaleDB hypertables, chunk management, retention policies, and compression strategies.
  • Implement schema changes, index strategies, and query rewrites to improve workload efficiency.
  • Support database lifecycle management across on-premises, GCVE, and cloud-native platforms.
  • Partner with application, analytics, and engineering teams to optimize database-driven workloads.
  • Operate and optimize workloads on CloudSQL, BigQuery, AWS RDS/Aurora, and GCVE-hosted SQL Server.
  • Apply DBA fundamentals to cloud-native services to support performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Support migrations from on-premises or VM-based SQL Server, Oracle, and Postgres to managed cloud services.
  • Implement observability across cloud platforms using monitoring, logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Participate in multi-cloud operational readiness, incident response, and performance engineering.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Linux-based Postgres, TimescaleDB, and Oracle environments.
  • Tune system resources, including CPU, memory, I/O, and kernel parameters, to support database performance.
  • Support containerized and orchestrated environments where applicable.
  • Automate DBA and operational tasks using bash, PowerShell, or Python.
  • Contribute to CI/CD workflows and infrastructure automation.
  • Improve reliability through scripting, monitoring, alerting, and self-service tooling.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for critical data systems.
