About The Position

Leidos is seeking a customer experience-focused Data Architect to work with subject matter experts and developers to design and implement data architectures supporting end-to-end data processing. The role interfaces with functional professionals and business managers to translate business needs into cloud-based architectures for high-performance data and geospatial visualization and advanced analytics. It is hands-on in establishing and overseeing standards and architectures for data ingestion, integration, storage, and querying, as well as migration across Microsoft SQL Server and Azure data services. The architect will help deliver reusable enterprise data structures and business logic in Azure SQL Managed Instance, support subject-oriented data marts and reporting, and align implementation choices with the enterprise data and analytics roadmap and priorities established through PI Planning. The position requires U.S. citizenship, at least three years of U.S. residency, and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance. Estimated travel is 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 8 or more years of experience, or a master’s degree and 6 or more years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • At least 4 years of experience in cloud data architecture, including integration, storage, and query architectures.
  • At least 4 years of experience developing and implementing data models for Microsoft SQL Server, star models, data marts, and SSAS OLAP cubes.
  • Experience developing and implementing models for data lakes, Azure SQL, and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with data backup and retention, data migration, and data quality design.
  • Ability to work directly with client personnel at management and functional levels.
  • Ability to clearly document and explain designs and obtain buy-in for designs and technical roadmaps.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing query performance.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and technologies such as Python, Spark, and .NET-based development.
  • Knowledge and experience in data governance, including metadata management, enterprise data catalogs, design standards, data quality governance, and data security.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD automation, and cloud-based development using Azure or AWS.
  • Ability to obtain a government-issued Public Trust clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must have resided in the U.S. for at least 3 years.
  • Estimated travel requirement of 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing Master Data Management solutions.
  • Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps.
  • Azure Enterprise Data Analyst certification.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and translate client and business needs into long-term data architectures.
  • Define conceptual, logical, and physical data models for high-performance analytical queries across multiple subject areas.
  • Design and implement architectures for relational, data lake, delta lake, medallion, and NoSQL data stores.
  • Design and deliver solutions using Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Azure Analysis Services, and Azure Synapse.
  • Design and implement data models for OLAP cubes, star schemas, and subject-specific data marts.
  • Develop processes, functions, and tools for data migration, conversion, and data-model refactoring to support new architectures.
  • Provide guidance on data pipeline design and implementation.
  • Help define and maintain data modeling and architecture standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Support implementation of data management and governance practices and tools, including enterprise data catalogs and data quality capabilities.
  • Recommend improvements to system performance and cost efficiency.
  • Establish common business definitions, conformed dimensions, reusable measures, reference data, and data-modeling patterns across enterprise domains and reporting products.
  • Design reusable SQL-based metrics and detail layers in SQL Managed Instance or comparable relational platforms, structuring business logic for reuse across subject-oriented data marts.
  • Align architectural decisions and implementation priorities with the enterprise data and analytics roadmap, including PI Planning outcomes and priorities.
  • Evaluate and optimize SQL MI-based Gold-layer structures for performance, scalability, maintainability, and reuse, including indexing, partitioning, materialized views, aggregation strategies, and execution patterns.
  • Define reusable enterprise dimensions, measures, business rules, reference structures, and detailed data entities in the Gold/SQL MI layer to reduce duplication and promote consistent definitions.
  • Lead data-model design and implementation for planned subject-oriented data marts, reusing common Gold-layer structures and business logic where practical.
  • Establish reusable Gold-layer metrics and detail layers in Azure SQL Managed Instance, including modular stored procedures, views, and materialized views.
  • Align architecture, technology choices, and technical decisions with the target-state architecture and long-term modernization objectives.
  • Work directly with client personnel at management and functional levels, and document and explain designs and technical roadmaps to obtain buy-in.
