About The Position

Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. Prevention Services is seeking an experienced Senior Clinician to join our program. Prevention Services promotes individual, family and community behavioral health wellness. This position provides the opportunity to promote behavioral health wellness in a variety of settings including schools and the community. This position is ideal for someone who likes variety in their work and enjoys learning, facilitating and program development!

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in human services or related field
  • Three years of experience related to assigned program
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics
  • Considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities
  • Adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing
  • Some knowledge of consultation program
  • Considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development
  • Very good interviewing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Computer proficiency skills
  • Working knowledge of electronic health record systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others

Nice To Haves

  • Some coursework in early childhood mental health preferred
  • Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement preferred
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, including social/emotional milestones and behavioral health needs preferred
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including parents, educators, and community partners preferred
  • Skills in classroom observation, assessment, and interpretation of child behavior within group settings preferred
  • Ability to facilitate engaging, age appropriate programs for both youth and adults preferred
  • Ability to adapt content and delivery methods to meet diverse learning needs and promote mental health awareness preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides early childhood mental health consultation in preschool settings by observing classroom dynamics
  • Supports teachers with behavior and developmental strategies
  • Collaborates with families to help promote children's social/emotional growth and overall well-being
  • Leads suicide awareness, substance abuse prevention, and mental health promotion programming for youth
  • Provides parent education and support in individual and group formats, both in person and virtually
  • Provides community education about mental health and substance misuse related topics
  • Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health
  • May serve as a lead worker to Clinicians, interns, etc. and assists in providing clinical supervision and training
  • Develops curriculum for programming on mental health related topics
  • Performs other work as required
