About The Position

This position involves the planning and delivery of targeted prevention groups and services, with a specific focus on supporting BIPOC children/youth and families in accessing these programs. The role offers opportunities to provide programming across the Halton region as part of the prevention services team. It also involves collaborating with the BIPOC community to break down barriers to accessing mental health support and exploring topics related to racial identity, racial discrimination, and empowering/celebrating BIPOC identities. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting children, youth, and families through impactful prevention programs, possesses a background in Child and Youth Care or an equivalent field, and has at least one year of experience in a community-based environment, preferably facilitating groups, workshops, or educational services. Strong planning, organizing, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to thrive in collaborative environments and work independently. Technical proficiency with virtual platforms and client-data management tools is also important.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care or equivalent
  • Lived experience in the BIPOC community.
  • A minimum 1 year of experience working in a community-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in targeted prevention implementation and development
  • Familiarity with client-data management, screening and evaluation tools
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate and UMAB Certification
  • A current Criminal Reference Check with vulnerable sector search
  • An ability to work flexible hours according to program need (this may include evenings or weekend work)
  • Proficient in the use of technology and working from a virtual environment as required of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably, providing groups/workshops/education to children, youth and/or families
  • MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to plan targeted prevention activities
  • Must be organized and able to multi task
  • Reliable transportation is essential for traveling between sites as needed to support program requirements.
