About The Position

The SAAAC Autism Centre is a Toronto based charity whose mission is to make autism services equitable for all Canadians. The Centre provides culturally responsive autism services targeting culturally and linguistically diverse families. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, our Centre offers a dynamic range of services that support the development of individuals on the autism spectrum at all life stages, along with their caregivers. The Living ‘N’ Learning program supports young adults living with autism by helping them to learn new and meaningful skills that encourage independent living. Through an engaging curriculum and supportive instructors, our program encourages students to create greater connections to the people and community around them. The Living ‘N’ Learning program places an emphasis on Independent Living, Recreational and Physical Activity, and Building Community and Social Skills. The program provides students with fun, challenging, and meaningful daily activities with the goal of preparing them for life outside the classroom. The Classroom Facilitator will be responsible for working in classroom to deliver a group-based program focused on developing independent daily living skills (communication, play, social interactions, functional routines, behavioural self-management, functional academics, and building focus & attention).

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field (e.g., social services, psychology, ABA)
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with youth or adults (preferably post-graduation)
  • Experience working with individuals with ASD
  • Strong understanding of program planning and behaviour management strategies
  • Ability to evaluate and adapt activities for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination

  • Experience as an Instructor Therapist in an ABA an asset

Responsibilities

  • Supervising clients in a classroom setting within the centre and during community and off-site excursions
  • Implement appropriate learning activities and strategies to help participants reach individual and group goals
  • Use ABA-related teaching strategies such as reinforcement, prompting, shaping, chaining, modeling, and fading
  • Monitor participant behaviors, teach replacement skills, and manage challenging behaviors using approved strategies
  • Address personal care requirements during sessions
  • Build rapport with participants and foster a positive, inclusive environment
  • Support arrivals, departures, and safe medication dispensing
  • Communicate effectively with caregivers through verbal updates, emails, and phone calls
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, caregivers, partner agencies, volunteers, and internal staff
  • Document and communicate incident reports to the internal team and caregivers
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of daily observations, data collection, and client progress
  • Contribute ideas for program improvement and curriculum development
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, workshops, and ongoing professional development
  • Adhere to all licensing, funding, and organizational policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality standards (HIPAA/PHIPA as applicable)
  • Participate in regular safety drills and comply with all emergency procedures
  • Maintain current certifications required for health and safety (e.g., CPR, SMG)
  • Ensure sanitary standards are upheld and identify participants who may be unwell
  • Ensure smooth operations of assigned classrooms (working at 1:3/1:4 ratios)
  • Collaborate with team members and assist with behaviors when needed
  • Mentor volunteers and support positive classroom engagement
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
  • Step into a leadership role only in the absence of the Program Supervisor
  • Coordinate and support staff to ensure smooth operations across classrooms
  • Re-assign staff and contact on-call employees if needed to maintain coverage
  • Problem-solve day-to-day challenges while following established program protocols
  • Communicate and report any incidents, concerns, or unusual circumstances promptly to the Senior Director
  • Support oversight of daily tasks and routines, including attendance, incident reports, and curriculum activities
  • Assists with new client assessments and interviews when needed
