Senior Technical Instructor/Facilitator
About The Position
This role is based at Freeport-McMoRan's Bagdad operations in Arizona, a location offering subsidized housing, a family-friendly atmosphere, and amenities like an aquatic center, golf course, and fitness center. Bagdad is known for its commercial-scale concentrate leach processing facility and one of the world's longest continuously operating solvent extraction/electrowinning plants. The position focuses on developing employees' skills in safety compliance and advanced operations through technical training. This training primarily involves hands-on instruction in simulated or field settings, supplemented by limited classroom sessions, to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal standards. The instructor will also assess and confirm on-the-job performance using standardized tools, contributing to a collaborative team dedicated to enhancing workforce capability and promoting safe, effective job performance.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED AND Ten years of directly related work experience and technical competence equivalent to an experienced operator or journeyman OR Bachelor’s degree and five years of directly related work experience
- Proven computer literacy including MS Office and Windows
- Demonstrated behaviors aligned with technical training values and company policies
- Skill in analytical thinking
- Desire and willingness to learn and grow
- Passion for developing others
- Experience mentoring, coaching, training, and assessing in field environments
- Effective communication skills in English
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written safety-related instructions in English
- International travel is a must for this position.
Nice To Haves
- Master tradesperson certification or license
- Experience in adult education or corporate training
- Experience in mining, manufacturing, or industrial environments
- Familiarity with MSHA or OSHA safety standards
- Prior exposure to a Learning Management System (LMS)
- Familiarity with competency-based training models
- Bilingual in Spanish
- MSHA Blue Card Certified
- 10 years of Plant Maintenance and Operations experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop employees’ skills in safety compliance and advanced operations through technical training that combines pre-developed materials with practical expertise.
- Conduct training primarily hands-on in simulated or field settings, supported by limited classroom instruction.
- Ensure engagement and adherence to regulatory and internal standards during training.
- Assess and affirm on-the-job performance using standardized tools.
- Contribute to a collaborative team focused on workforce capability and safe, effective job performance.
- Deliver simulation-based and hands-on training to build complex competencies.
- Assess performance using standardized tools.

- Document results in the LMS.
