About The Position

Treasury Board and Finance – Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) provides services to client ministries and agencies throughout the government to help them identify, measure, control and finance risk. The program covers Participants of the Alberta Risk Management Fund (Fund) in accordance with the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and the Risk Management Fund Regulation (regulation). RMI administers a program designed to minimize the cost of accidental loss or damage arising from property, general, and other lines of, liability, automobile, and other risks. The Claims Management Branch is responsible for the investigation and resolution of all claims covered by the Fund under the Risk Management and Insurance program (the RMI Program). Claims are financed through the Fund and purchased commercial insurance as required.

Requirements

Relevant post-secondary degree, or diploma and CIP or FCIP designation.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in adjusting and managing complex liability claims.
Extensive experience in, and focus on, examining commercial insurance litigated matters.
Proficiency in paperless, electronic claims management systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

Nice To Haves

Ten (10) or more years of directly related experience.

Responsibilities

Manage, investigate, examine, negotiate and resolve commercial general, and other lines of, liability, including automobile bodily injury claims.
Manage files assigned to independent adjusters for specific tasks.
Work with various Participant ministries considering their interests and the interests of other parties within the provisions of the Financial Administration Act and the Alberta Risk Management Fund Regulation.
Work closely with and provide instructions to counsel at Alberta Justice Civil Litigation and outside legal counsel in the defence and settlement or resolution of claims.
Participate in pre-trial conferences, mediations and judicial dispute resolutions.
Contribute to the planning, implementation and achievement of organizational goals.
Advise and liaise with the RMI Risk Analysts in loss reduction and prevention.
Bring extensive experience with complex commercial general, and other lines of, liability, bodily injury claims and fatalities.
Provide quality service by enhancing claims results utilizing effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external clients, Fund Participants, legal counsel and service providers.
