About The Position

Our Ontario Region is seeking a Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our North American Waste management team of 120 professionals providing traditional and emerging services with our waste and energy clients. This position is a phenomenal opportunity to be part of an established practice with an exciting future ahead. We are seeking an experienced, technically strong Senior Engineer who wants to take an active role in growing our North American team to leverage GHD’s significant experience in new and innovative technologies. The role can be based out of any of our Ontario offices including Mississauga, Markham, Toronto, Whitby, Waterloo, Peterborough or Ottawa. Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in Engineering Solutions Design, Technical Developments Recommendation, Professional Supervision, Feasibility Studies, Waste Management, Project Management, Client & Customer Management (External), Mentoring, active participation in waste and energy industry groups and liaison activities with regulators, and Engineering Standards Specification.

Requirements

  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario required; accreditation in other Canadian provinces is considered an asset
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Experience in landfill and landfill gas, transfer station, and waste facility design.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license with driving record in good standing
  • Willingness and ability for occasional project travel and oversight of field work by team
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to work in a highly-skilled and diversified project team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with organic waste processing, waste processing technologies, and energy projects is considered an asset.
  • Working understanding of Autodesk, AutoCAD or Civil 3D an asset

Responsibilities

  • Managing and providing technical leadership and oversight on solid waste and energy solutions projects for municipal and private clients requiring permitting, detailed design, construction management and inspection, operations support, and other studies.
  • Leading technical approach development for new project proposals.
  • Completing peer reviews of designs completed by other team members.
  • Providing leadership in the growth and direction of the Ontario, Canadian and North American Team waste management teams.
  • Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to GHD’s clients’ processes, products, or technology selection and implementation.
  • Provide consulting expertise to GHD’s waste management clients, including waste reduction programs, waste segregation, compliance, storage, transport, and disposal.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.
  • Establishing and maintain long-lasting client relationships with municipal and private clients and prospects.
  • Providing mentorship to intermediate and junior technical staff across North America.
  • Active participation in waste and energy industry groups and liaison activities with regulators.
  • Working collaboratively with GHD’s Engineering Design Organization (EDO), analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered to our clients.
  • Ensure the correct disciplines within EDO and other GHD departments are engaged to provide complete solutions to our waste management clients, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility.
  • Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.
