About The Position

The City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department is looking for a dynamic and skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team! In this role, you'll have the opportunity to lead and oversee professional engineering work, related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of essential storm, water, and sewer systems and projects. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you’ll supervise and direct the work of professional engineering staff and consultants engaged in a variety of capital improvement and utility infrastructure projects. This position offers the opportunity to take on challenging and rewarding assignments that make a meaningful impact on the community while working in a collaborative and innovative environment. We offer a flexible 9/80 work schedule consisting of nine-hour workdays Monday through Thursday, and eight hours every other Friday, with alternating Fridays off. Work hours may be adjusted with supervisory approval. A typical schedule may include Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Incumbents in this position are covered under the Civil Service system, in "for-cause" employment status and are represented by the Mid-Management/Supervisory Bargaining Unit. (Classified/Represented) This list may be used to fill future vacancies. Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a medical examination, including a back evaluation, and background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field or possession of a valid California Engineer-In-Training Certificate
  • Five (5) years of responsible experience in design, development review or construction management of civil engineering projects, one (1) year of which was at a level equivalent to the City's class of Associate Engineer.
  • Must possess a valid California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee professional engineering work related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of storm, water, and sewer systems and projects.
  • Supervise and direct the work of professional engineering staff and consultants engaged in capital improvement and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of Engineering Division staff engaged in professional engineering activities for traffic and/or capital improvement projects.
  • Plan, organize, direct, conduct, and review the work of staff engaged in plan checking and development services and/or the preparation of plans, specifications, designs, estimates, schedules, inspections, and project management activities for construction and maintenance programs.
