As a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Bridges) for the Department of Transportation, you will guide major inspection activities and support important engineering decisions. This position oversees bridge inspection programs and related engineering work to ensure structures meet federal and state safety standards. It involves supervising staff, reviewing reports, coordinating with partners, and guiding technical decisions.

Requirements

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Manage bridge inspections for state and municipal structures and ensure compliance with national standards
  • Evaluate inspection reports, load ratings, and maintenance needs to support safe bridge conditions
  • Lead engineers and consultants, approve work products, and administer performance evaluations
  • Develop scopes of work, review proposals, and oversee consultant contracts for bridge inspections
  • Monitor priority repair items, coordinate work orders, and ensure timely documentation
  • Support selection of bridge projects for improvement programs and prepare cost estimates
