About The Position

This position supports statewide bridge design quality assurance and helps guide engineering decisions that affect major transportation structures. As a Senior Civil Engineer (Bridges), you will perform quality assurance evaluations of bridge design and construction loading activities, provide engineering guidance to resolve bridge design and construction problems, review bridge design work, price proposals and consultant submissions to recommend appropriate actions, assist with development and implementation of statewide bridge design criteria and specifications, inspect complex bridges to assess structural integrity and recommend repair or replacement needs, and develop and deliver technical training to bridge engineering staff at the Central Office and district offices.

Requirements

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality assurance evaluations of bridge design and construction loading activities
  • Provide engineering guidance to resolve bridge design and construction problems
  • Review bridge design work, price proposals and consultant submissions to recommend appropriate actions
  • Assist with development and implementation of statewide bridge design criteria and specifications
  • Inspect complex bridges to assess structural integrity and recommend repair or replacement needs
  • Develop and deliver technical training to bridge engineering staff at the Central Office and district offices
