About The Position

Performs a variety of custodial and minor building maintenance duties for the Senior Center Campus facilities. This position works under the supervision of the Senior Citizens Administrator and Senior Center Coordinator. It requires excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public. The role involves operating a motor vehicle, working independently, and occasionally collaborating with co-workers. Responsibilities include operating custodial equipment, performing cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing restrooms, and undertaking minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs like painting and plumbing. The position also involves inspecting and maintaining equipment, opening and closing facilities, setting alarms, keeping records, reporting hazards, and monitoring supply inventory. A friendly disposition and the ability to respond to senior patrons' needs are essential. Attendance at work is a critical function of this position.

Requirements

  • Extensive background checks required.
  • Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment, and the ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to communicate, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers, supervisors and other City departments.
  • Ability to effectively and courteously interact with the public.
  • Must be capable to work harmoniously with other co-workers when needed.
  • Friendly disposition and the ability to respond to senior patrons needs.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of custodial and minor building maintenance duties for the Senior Center Campus facilities.
  • Operates custodial equipment and other equipment as assigned.
  • Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, steam cleans, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets, and furniture.
  • Dumps trash cans and garbage and relines cans with liners.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies.
  • Cleans spills, drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, and light fixtures.
  • Washes windows, walls, metal, and woodwork.
  • Picks up litter from around buildings and grounds.
  • Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical work.
  • Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.
  • Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed and sets alarms when appropriate.
  • Keeps records of work completed.
  • Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance.
  • Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to supervisors.
  • Monitors inventory levels of custodial supplies and communicates needs to supervisor.
  • Responds to senior patrons' needs with a friendly disposition.
  • Moves and sets up furniture, pictures, etc. as needed and assigned.
  • Makes coffee, etc. as required.
  • Works other related senior activities within the Senior Center Campus or outside, as needed.
