About The Position

AFRY is seeking a Senior Cable Tray Designer with direct industry practical experience. The role involves designing and laying out cable trays and conduits for power, control, and instrumentation wiring across various industrial sectors including Pulp & Paper, Wastewater Treatment, and Power Generation. The position requires a strong understanding of electrical distribution equipment, Canadian Electrical Code, and proficiency in design software. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in cable tray design within a consulting engineering environment and possess excellent computer, interpersonal, and communication skills. This is a permanent position within the Automation, Electrical and Robotics Engineering competence area.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and practical background in projects requiring detailed design of Cable trays and Conduit for industrial sectors such as Pulp & Paper, Wastewater Treatment, and Power Generation
  • Minimum 10 years or more of professional experience in cable tray design working in a Consulting Engineering environment
  • Experience gathering electrical information at Client’s project sites and understanding existing cable tray and conduit installations
  • Strong computer-based skills using AVEVA E3D and AUTOCAD 2D
  • Good working knowledge of MICROSOFT Office Tools and Windows
  • Solid understanding of industrial electrical distribution equipment and materials
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the current Canadian Electrical Code, particularly sections relating to Wire and Cable, Raceway & Conduit Systems, Grounding, Motors, and Motor Controls
  • Team-oriented, detailed oriented, and a creative thinker
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Bilingual French / English

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working at job sites to supervise the installation of cable tray systems and conduits, and electrical equipment
  • Experience using software programs such as AVEVA Electrical Engineering Modules and AUTOCAD PLANT 3D modelling

Responsibilities

  • Design and layout of raceway and conduits for power, control and instrumentation wiring for industrial sectors such as Pulp & Paper, Wastewater Treatment and Power Generation
  • Perform cable tray loading reports, and define installation methods and grounding for cable trays
  • Manage conduit loading, installation methods, grounding, and connection
  • Select appropriate types of cable trays, raceways, and conduits for specific project applications
  • Handle distribution and control from 120 volts to 15,000 volts AC
  • Design and layout of underground conduits
  • Design and layout of grounding systems
  • Develop physical layout drawings for electrical rooms, transformer rooms, and outdoor substations
  • Coordinate design with other disciplines including Piping, HVAC, Civil, and Mechanical
