The Senior Business Systems Analyst plays a crucial role in implementing and improving the Hospital Information Systems, providing ongoing support to users, and enhancing processes and workflows. This position is temporary, full-time, with an initial assignment focused on Outpatient Applications, expected to last until March 2028.

Requirements

  • Police Record Check (CRC) (Essential)
  • University Degree in a relevant field, Graduate certificate in Digital Health or similar program and/or experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance (Essential)

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support to users and their Business System Analyst team.
  • Support the improvement of processes/workflows (business and clinical).
  • Create and maintain project and system related documentation.
  • Lead and coordinate the work effort of a team of staff supporting an application group.
  • Maintain on-going professional development to ensure expertise (and certification where applicable) in relevant applications.
  • Lead integrated Epic initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of Business Systems Analysts (BSA).
  • Coordinate the effort of BSAs and Senior Technical Support Analysts (STSA) to support a group of applications and systems.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of applications.
  • Develop functional specifications and research potential vendors.
  • Analyze how the introduction of new or enhanced applications will impact current work processes.
  • Recommend potential candidates to participate on various project-related committees and working groups.
  • Develop, document and test integration specifications in cooperation with BSAs and the interface management service provider to ensure that applications will interact smoothly and efficiently with each other.
  • Configure and test software to ensure that it meets the established functional application specifications.
  • Supervise seconded departmental staff conducting in-depth testing of the software.
  • Establish utilization audits to ensure the application software meets the requirements of the users, that the application is being fully utilized, and that the users are completely knowledgeable in all aspects of its operation.
  • Confer with vendor representatives regarding potential software modifications if required.
  • Recommend and/or create procedures governing the use of the application including new/revised work procedures for use in a department or on a hospital-wide basis.
  • Design reports and/or work with reporting specialists to enable system users to maximize the potential of the application as a management and/or patient care tool.
  • Monitor applications to ensure that their full potential is being used to benefit the hospital and its patients.
  • Support process to optimize applications by participating in prioritization of requests and creation of plan with deliverables to meet requirements.
  • Analyze proposed changes to business processes to determine the impact on users and their information systems.
  • Evaluate proposed changes for their potential to offer improved patient care and lower operating costs without creating risks for the hospital.
  • Present change proposals to supervisors, managers, directors, and operations directors.
  • Prepare project plans, system specifications, presentations, fit gap analyses, and work redesign documents.
  • Participate in the development of requests for proposals and related procurement documents.
  • Ensure accurate and detailed documentation concerning how and why decisions are made throughout the course of an implementation project, vendor selection, systems design and development, and work process redesign.
  • Ensure development of comprehensive technical documentation, in conjunction with STSA and BSAs, to describe and explain the intricate software and hardware configurations of the applications and to document system backup and restoration of patient data in the event of a system failure.
  • Foster effective partnerships between the Information Services Department, vendors, and users.
  • Generate buy-in and participation on projects from all areas of the hospital and resolve conflicts where necessary.
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge base regarding current and emerging trends in hospital administration and systems development.
  • Use knowledge to provide guidance and support to business analysts.
  • Develop and recommend standards and policies for BSAs professional practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership and excellence by actively participating in user groups.
  • Share best practices with colleagues in other hospitals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current hospital policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Participate in staff recruitment, performance appraisals and approval of leave forms.
  • Identify training needs of end users and provide/facilitate training.
  • Perform IS Leader on call duties (after hours/weekends/holidays) on a rotation schedule.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
