About The Position

Oak Valley Health is seeking a Wound Care Consultant to provide comprehensive, specialized care for patients requiring wound, skin, or ostomy care. This role will also assist in program planning, evaluation, and education related to pressure injury prevention and management for frontline staff. The position may require travel to Uxbridge and Reactivation Care Centre locations. The consultant will build capacity for excellent skin and wound care delivery, practice within an interprofessional team model, and promote best practices. They will facilitate the application of relevant information for effective decision-making in care management, promote professional practice, and demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development. Key aspects include decision-making, problem recognition and solving, identifying and developing staff learning needs through coaching and leadership, and implementing/evaluating strategies for team development. The role involves researching, designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based programs, creating capacity among team members for excellence in skin, wound, and ostomy care, and providing clinical consultation to staff, patients, and families. The consultant will identify learning needs and utilize adult education principles for planning and implementing educational strategies, acting as a resource, coach, and mentor to clinicians, and supporting the development and implementation of patient-centered approaches to pressure injury management.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or working towards required
  • Five years RN experience, or an equivalent combination of post graduate training specific to wound care treatment and management
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and implementation of evidenced based practice
  • A strong desire and capacity to promote professional practice and excellence in evidence-based, patient centered care
  • Superior interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Excellent computer literacy including knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent documentation skills and data collection
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

  • Wounds Canada membership an asset
  • Completion of course work relevant to area of expertise, such as credentials for Enterostomal Therapist, International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course or comparable course an asset
