About The Position

Philo is seeking a Senior Business Insights Analyst to improve decision-making through rigorous analysis, trusted metrics, and cross-functional partnership. This high-impact individual contributor role owns recurring KPI reporting, investigates ambiguous business questions, and presents clear, decision-ready recommendations to senior stakeholders. The analyst will serve as a strategic partner across the business, with particular ownership of billing and subscription analytics. The work covers the subscriber lifecycle and revenue streams, including trials, conversion, activation, renewals, churn, reactivation, plan migration, add-on behavior, pricing and packaging, refunds and credits, failed payments, involuntary churn, and direct versus partner billing experiences. They will independently refine questions, frame decisions, and deliver work that stakeholders trust and use. The position is full-time and may be based in San Francisco, California, or remotely within the United States. Compensation includes annual salary, company stock options, and health benefits; salary varies by experience and location, with listed ranges from $125,000 to $180,000 annually.

Requirements

  • Excellent spreadsheet skills in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Strong analytical fundamentals across cohort analysis, funnel analysis, segmentation, retention and churn analysis, trend analysis, KPI design, forecasting support, anomaly detection, and practical experimentation or quasi-experimental measurement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior stakeholders with differing levels of technical fluency.
  • Strong stakeholder partnership skills and ability to influence across Product, Finance, Marketing, Content, Operations, and technical teams.
  • Strong ownership and prioritization skills, including the ability to manage competing requests, distinguish urgent work from important work, and independently drive work forward.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in subscription, streaming, media, entertainment, ad-supported products, or another event-rich consumer business.
  • Experience using Python or R for deeper ad-hoc analysis, automation, or statistical workflows; the team primarily uses Python, and candidates should be comfortable with Python or willing to ramp up.
  • Deep familiarity with subscription business metrics such as trials, conversion, churn, retention, winback, LTV, plan mix, and add-on attachment.
  • Experience with billing, payments, dunning or retry flows, refunds and credits, and direct or partner-billing analytics.

  • Build deep expertise in Philo’s billing and subscription ecosystem, including trials, conversion, renewals, churn, reactivation, plan migration, add-on attachment, refunds, credits, failed payments, involuntary churn, and direct versus partner billing flows.
  • Identify operational and product levers that improve subscriber health, reduce friction, and strengthen revenue retention across the customer lifecycle.
  • Partner with Growth and Lifecycle Marketing on acquisition quality, funnel performance, cohort health, promotional effectiveness, winback programs, and LTV/CAC context.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science on customer journey analysis, feature adoption, experimentation readouts, and insights across the viewing and account experience.
  • Partner with Content, Programming, and Marketing to analyze how channels, titles, and viewing patterns drive acquisition, engagement, retention, upsell, and free-to-paid conversion opportunities.
  • Support customer-facing and operational teams with analysis of support contact drivers, account issues, billing friction, and subscriber pain points.
  • Build executive-ready materials that connect numbers to narrative, synthesize tradeoffs, and support confident decision-making by technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Improve business data quality and trust by partnering with analytics engineering and data engineering on instrumentation, metric governance, source-of-truth logic, and data quality issues.
  • Raise the analytical bar through clear documentation, thoughtful prioritization, and a pragmatic balance of speed and rigor.
