About The Position

The Senior Business Analyst, Enterprise Data holds the end-to-end view of how World Vision Canada's core business processes and the information supporting them fit together across fundraising, finance, program delivery and workforce. The role engages senior leadership to understand the business problem behind a request, defines what the organization needs from its data and systems to run those processes, and carries that definition through to delivered outcomes. It ensures that decisions affecting funding, program delivery and supporter engagement are grounded in information that is accurate, well understood and traceable to its source, thereby supporting the organization's mission. Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Enterprise Digital Strategy, the incumbent holds an ongoing enterprise position, with the multi-year transformation program as its principal current assignment; assignment may change as organizational priorities require. The incumbent works with the Data Architect on matters requiring an architectural ruling, while owning the business definition and the requirement itself. Support for day-to-day operations is provided on an as-available basis and is ad-hoc in nature.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years’ of experience in business or systems analysis, including substantial involvement in data-centric initiatives such as reporting, data migration, integration or analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to and influencing executive audiences on enterprise-wide initiatives, including framing business problems and recommending options.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale organizational transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple business functions, such as fundraising, finance, program delivery or workforce, with the ability to connect processes end to end.
  • Demonstrated experience working with delivery vendors in a distributed environment, including remote and offshore teams.
  • Demonstrated production of data analysis and requirements artefacts, including source-to-target mappings, lineage documentation, data definitions, business rules and acceptance criteria.
  • Working proficiency in SQL, Python, R or related languages for the profiling, validation and examination of data.
  • Demonstrated capability in data lineage tracing and source-to-target analysis across multiple enterprise systems.
  • Business process analysis and modelling, including current- and target-state process design across functions.
  • Proficiency with requirements, process-modelling and traceability tooling.
  • Practical experience preparing and specifying data for consumption by AI and machine-learning applications, including requirements for structure, quality, lineage and documentation.
  • Proficiency with modelling notations and tooling for producing models and diagrams
  • Understanding of data product and data contract concepts, including how data products are defined and how the rules governing data exchange between systems are specified.

Nice To Haves

  • Business analysis certification (for example CBAP or CCBA) or equivalent formal training.
  • Experience working in environments using Enterprise Agile frameworks.
  • Experience within a nonprofit organization, or within a regulated or privacy-sensitive data environment.
  • Experience working in environments using Enterprise Agile frameworks.
  • Familiarity with contemporary data platform concepts and with the data requirements of analytical and AI workloads.
  • Comfortable applying AI tools within the analysis and optimization workflows, for example, to accelerate data profiling, documentation and synthesis.

Responsibilities

  • Holds the end-to-end business process and information view. Maintains an authoritative understanding of how core business processes and the information supporting them connect across fundraising, finance, program delivery and workforce, identifies where processes break, duplicate or diverge, and defines the target state.
  • Engages senior leadership on business problems and options. Works directly with senior leaders and directors to understand the business problem, constraints and strategic priorities behind a request, frames the problem and the options available, and presents progress, risks and recommendations, including where a recommendation runs counter to a stated preference.
  • Maintains the consolidated view across data, tooling and process. Maintains a consolidated understanding of how data, tooling and business processes fit together as the organization changes, identifies where a change in one area undermines another, and raises integrity risks with supporting analysis and recommended options.
  • Assesses and translates enterprise data across business areas. Investigates and profiles data held in customer relationship management, data warehouse, finance, workforce, program delivery and other operational systems, identifies inconsistencies between sources, and establishes an authoritative understanding of what each system holds. Develops working knowledge of unfamiliar data structures and business processes efficiently and converts this into structured requirements and actionable recommendations.
  • Traces and documents data lineage. Establishes the origin of data, the way it is transformed as it moves between systems, and the points at which definitions diverge, ensuring that reported figures can be explained, substantiated and relied upon.
  • Elicits and specifies requirements for delivery. Engages business stakeholders to determine the content, intended use and acceptance criteria for each data product, documents the resulting definitions, business rules and source expectations, and converts these into precise, buildable requirements and backlog items with traceability from business requirement through to delivered outcome.
  • Leads the resolution of conflicting definitions across business areas. Brings business areas holding differing definitions and priorities to a single position, recommends the enterprise definition, and secures ratification from the accountable business owners, escalating only where the disagreement is a matter of business policy rather than data.
  • Documents data contracts between systems. Specifies the fields, formats, rules and expectations governing the exchange of data between systems, maintaining these specifications as systems evolve and ensuring consistency with the standards established by the Data Architect.
  • Defines data product quality standards, success measures and privacy requirements. Establishes the quality standards each data product must meet, including validation rules and measurable acceptance criteria, profiles source data to confirm those expectations are achievable, and ensures specifications reflect the organization's privacy, consent and data-protection obligations, including the heightened safeguarding requirements applicable to participant data relating to children.
