About The Position

Lateral is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to serve as a strategic partner between business and technology, leading complex initiatives from concept through delivery. The role translates business needs into scalable technical solutions, analyzes backend systems and data, and supports decisions involving enterprise applications and integrations. The analyst will examine business needs and system behavior, define functional and technical specifications, and use data analysis to troubleshoot complex issues and identify root causes. They will work with business, engineering, architecture, and data teams to evaluate solution trade-offs, map data flows and downstream impacts, support the software development lifecycle, and lead user acceptance testing and data validation. The role also contributes to improving requirements artifacts, process models, and documentation standards, and is expected to use AI to improve requirements gathering, documentation, and troubleshooting. This is a remote-first, office-friendly role for candidates in LATAM, with asynchronous collaboration across time zones. Production support may require availability outside core business hours, including nights and weekends, for testing, upgrades, and releases.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of progressive experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, or Systems Analyst supporting complex enterprise systems and integrations.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency and experience querying complex relational databases using SSMS or comparable tools for data validation, root cause analysis, and system behavior verification.
  • Hands-on expertise analyzing APIs, data flows, backend processes, ETL, middleware, and enterprise applications.
  • Strong SDLC and Agile experience.
  • Fluency with work management and documentation tools such as Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and Visio.
  • A working relationship with AI demonstrated in day-to-day work, not only experience trying AI tools.
  • Clear, business-friendly communication and the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to independently manage complex analysis while collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Strong English communication, asynchronous collaboration skills, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Flexibility for production support outside core business hours, including nights or weekends when needed for system testing, upgrades, and releases.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in financial services, fintech, consumer lending, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Professional certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, or Agile certifications.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as Datadog.
  • Experience establishing business analysis practices, templates, and standards across an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex business needs and translate them into functional specifications, technical requirements, end-to-end workflows, data lineage maps, and interface specifications.
  • Partner with business and engineering teams to evaluate solution options and technical trade-offs involving performance, risk, cost, and functionality.
  • Use advanced SQL, database logs, and tools such as SSMS or Datadog to investigate system behavior, troubleshoot issues, and identify root causes.
  • Analyze system integrations across APIs, event-driven architectures, file-based interfaces, middleware, and ETL processes; map data flows and downstream impacts.
  • Bridge communication among business stakeholders, developers, architects, and data teams to establish shared understanding of requirements and data flows.
  • Partner with engineering throughout the SDLC to clarify requirements, investigate production issues, validate bug fixes, and support release readiness.
  • Facilitate UAT by developing test scenarios, verifying backend data outputs, confirming data integrity, and validating delivered features.
  • Improve requirements artifacts, process models, and documentation standards, and identify recurring data or integration patterns to improve project quality.
  • Use AI to improve requirements gathering, documentation, and troubleshooting practices.

Benefits

  • Remote-first, office-friendly work arrangement with flexibility to work from wherever most productive.
  • Async collaboration and respect for LATAM time zones, with a focus on outcomes over hours.
  • Support for professional growth, exploring new paths, and taking on greater responsibility.
  • A sustainable work culture emphasizing high-quality work without burnout or crunch.
  • Work at a profitable, independent company with over two decades of stability and varied projects.
