We are seeking a Senior Building Engineer with great interpersonal skills, experience maintaining a variety of commercial building types, and a disciplined attention to detail to join our Denver team. The ideal candidate will have experience working in downtown Denver, with industry knowledge and professional contacts specific to this market. The Senior Building Engineer is responsible for supporting engineering and maintenance operations across the portfolio of Denver based commercial and retail properties. This role leads the engineering team to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and energy management and supporting both tenant and vendor relationships. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and works closely with the Property Management team.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in building engineering operations with a minimum of 2 years of experience in management or supervisory role
  • Experience with a mixed-use and/or commercial office portfolio highly preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required as well as relevant technical certifications (see recommended list below)
  • Operation and maintenance of a variety of mechanical tools and small machinery such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, sewer augers, and hand tools
  • Good oral and written communications and customer service skills, with respect to colleagues, supervisors, vendors, contractors, tenants, and others
  • Good attention to detail and organization, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient use of PCs, Macs, and standard digital productivity tools (e.g. Office365)
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; job duties may also require work to be performed from ladders, rooftops, or mechanical lifts.
  • Able to read, interpret and understand diagrams and blueprints
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating emergency contact schedule
  • Absolute discreteness in receiving and handling sensitive information
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and insurability under the company’s insurance policy

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance and repairs of facilities equipment and buildings with skilled electrical, plumbing, painting, heating and air conditioning, and mechanical work
  • Ensure uninterrupted operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, elevators, and building automation systems
  • Implement and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all relevant systems and equipment
  • Lead inspection and adjustments of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment including boilers, water pumps, chiller, air conditioning units, exhaust fans, air filters, compressors, and cooling towers
  • Repair & replace plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, copper & PVC
  • Perform carpentry work including the construction, installation, remodeling and repairing of cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, and other carpentry work
  • Lead facilities inspections to identify building maintenance needs and safety issues
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of floor coverings such as carpet, tile and wood
  • Support facilities team in managing fire/life safety programs, emergency response readiness, and inspections
  • Lead grounds maintenance activities including sidewalk pressure washing
  • Lead the repair and maintenance of electrical lighting systems and fixtures, such as changing ballast, transformers and bulbs
  • Operate building automation systems such as Metasys & Tracer and MRI Angus work order management system
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in the engineering team and provide training, mentorship and performance evaluations
  • Lead the completion of all repair and maintenance records and logs
  • Collaborate with Director of Facilities, Property Managers and other stakeholders in vendor management and construction management
  • Collaborate with Director of Facilities, Property Managers and other stakeholders to prioritize and align project goals with business objectives
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between different teams to ensure seamless integration and execution of projects
  • Work closely with property managers to support tenant requests and buildouts
