About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI), through its employees, enhances the quality of life in Denver by efficiently delivering effective, high-quality, safe, and equitable public infrastructure and services. DOTI's Infrastructure Delivery Division – Bridge Office has an opening for a Senior Engineer. This position would be part of a larger 17-person team working with engineers, project managers, inspectors, skilled tradesmen, and business administrators. As a Senior Engineer, you will have an opportunity to manage the design and construction aspects of bridge preventative maintenance, rehabilitations, replacements, and emergency repair projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Three (3) years of professional engineering work experience after obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application.
  • Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of 1-year probation.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in managing the design and construction of bridge, box culvert, and wall projects.
  • Background and experience in the planning and design of bridge projects
  • Experience with highly complex, multi-discipline projects that include additional components such as roadway improvements, signal reconstruction, and bike lanes
  • Strong communication, collaboration skills and experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders and the public through community engagement
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Excel and PowerPoint
  • Skilled in MicroStation, ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap desktop and online products

Responsibilities

  • Performing project management work by managing, coordinating, and directing large, complex, multi-disciplinary capital improvement projects including project initiation, development, production/execution, and closing/maintenance and project coordination with city departments, elected officials, affected community and business organizations, and other internal/external stakeholders
  • Providing technical input and guidance to support other internal City projects.
  • Leverage and advocate best practices to further enhance Denver’s Bridge system.
  • Preparing documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Conducting quality assurance and quality control on deliverables, as well as perform reviews of work performed by others to ensure accuracy and completeness, standard of care, and compliance with design criteria and standard practices.
  • Engaging and collaborating with other city agencies, outside governmental municipalities and regional partners, business and/or community groups, the public, and other stakeholders, as needed.
  • Coordinating alignment with internal DOTI departments and other city agencies, including DOTI Right-of-Way Services (ROWS), DOTI Wastewater Operations, Denver Parks and Recreation, and Community Planning and Development (CPD).
  • Partner with agencies that may include Mile High Flood District, Metro Water Recovery, Denver Water, and other governmental entities.
  • Supporting planning efforts that may include bridge infrastructure projects.
  • Serving as a technical and/or subject matter expert and provide training and mentoring to other staff members in the areas of project development, project design, project specification preparation, project management, contract management, project construction and quality control
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
