About The Position

RLB is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to join their team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career growth, including the chance to mentor junior staff. Candidates with experience in complex bookkeeping engagements or at an assistant controller level are encouraged to apply. The position involves comprehensive month-end close procedures for clients, including preparing reconciliations, working papers, and supporting schedules, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g., HST/GST, payroll deductions, WSIB). A key focus is on building strong relationships with clients and team members, serving as a primary contact for bookkeeping inquiries, and maintaining a high-quality client experience through responsiveness. The Senior Bookkeeper will also be responsible for supporting and mentoring junior bookkeepers to standardize processes and uphold work quality. This is a permanent, full-time position with options for hybrid or in-office work at one of RLB's locations in Guelph, Kitchener, Fergus, Orangeville, or Shelburne.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in full cycle book-keeping including posting Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements
  • Highly comfortable working in cloud-based accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar tools
  • Tech savvy with the ability to design new processes and workflows for our clients
  • Strong Excel skills and confident preparing reports, reconciliations, and schedules
  • Comfortable adopting new tools, workflows, and automation — and enjoy finding better ways to work
  • Ability to move beyond “closing the books” to understanding what the numbers mean
  • Ability to identify trends, anomalies, and risks and communicate them clearly
  • Confident interacting with clients and explaining financial information in a thoughtful, professional manner
  • Proactive, organized, and motivated by making an impact
  • Proven ability to identify issues and problem solve to confidently advise our clients on sales tax, payroll and complex transactions

Responsibilities

  • Complete full month-end close for assigned clients
  • Prepare reconciliations, working papers, and supporting schedules
  • Support regulatory compliance activities as assigned (e.g., HST/GST filings and remittances, payroll source deductions, WSIB reporting)
  • Focus on building meaningful relationships with both clients and RLB team members
  • Act as a primary day-to-day contact for bookkeeping-related matters
  • Support a high-quality client experience through responsiveness and reliability
  • Escalate issues appropriately and collaborate with other team members
  • Support and mentor junior staff or bookkeepers, helping standardize processes and maintain high-quality work
