About The Position

This is a unique laboratory role at Diagnexia, a fully digitised pathology laboratory. The Senior Biomedical Scientist (Dissection) will act as the clinical reference point, leading on shift, developing team members, and contributing to the advancement of pathology services. This position is ideal for someone whose dissection expertise has reached its limit in their current environment and is seeking a new challenge.

Requirements

• UK based HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, maintained at all times with active CPD.
• Hold a BSc Biomedical Science Degree.
• 4+ years in a UK UKAS-accredited histopathology or cellular pathology laboratory.
• Category A - E specimen dissection experience (some or all).
• Confidence with special stains, embedding, microtome, and section cutting.
• Experience mentoring or supervising laboratory staff.
• Ability to own work, execute priorities by impact, stay curious, communicate with intent (complex science in clear English, written and spoken), adapt to change, and care about the mission.

Nice To Haves

• Ideally have completed your IBMS Higher Specialist Portfolio (Dissection) or Masters.
• Digital pathology experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the lab on shift as the most senior dissection practitioner, accountable for throughput, quality, and team performance.
• Dissect a range of RCPath Category A through E specimens and serve as the technical reference for junior staff.
• Drive quality and compliance, assisting with UKAS and ISO 15189 audit readiness, and maintaining/developing SOPs to RCPath standards.
• Develop the team by designing and delivering training, running competency assessments, and participating in hiring and appraisals.
• Deputise for the Lab Manager during planned absences and contribute to business development.
• Drive R&D, contributing to tissue labelling, digitisation, and analysis technique development.
