The Senior Biomedical Data Specialist supports practice activation, and CLQ product needs, through the development of high-quality business rules, data cleansing, codification, and harmonization. This position collaborates with the Informatics Manager, Activation Manager, External Accounts Manager, Engineering, and Product teams as well as informatics team members to meet practice and product requirements to CLQ data standards. The Senior Biomedical Data Specialist also deploys with engineering and product teams to develop new reporting, automation, new products and features.

Requirements

BS Degree, preferably in informatics, data science, statistics, math or computer programming.
Minimum 5 years working with the healthcare data.
Minimum 5 years experience harmonizing clinical data.
Experience with maturing processes to improve data quality.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AWS or related software.
Proficiency with SQL, LookML, Python and/or other database querying languages.
Understanding, maintaining and performing job responsibilities as per HIPAA regulations.
Deep knowledge of oncology and other healthcare data to include multiple interaction types and ontologies, how to harmonize it for multiple EMRs, and how to optimize data collection and use. Understanding of electronic health records and subject matter expertise in clinical workflows. Works independently to identify issues and collaborates on solutions where needed.
Knowledge and ability to lead technical discussions regarding CancerLinQ data with internal stakeholders, practice partners and external customers.
Awareness of EHR data challenges, in particular how they store oncology data, and be able to anticipate challenges that may impact data quality.
Able to improve processes and find innovative solutions to data quality issues. Ensure continued population of a knowledge base for clinical data reviews and to drive quality control and standardization.
Excellent consultation and customer relationship management skills based on a customer orientation. Can effectively engage clients in solution implementation and change processes, with the ability to identify solutions and advocate for customer interests. Able to drive cross-team, collaborative assessment of and delivery of services.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication including effectiveness with differing work and communication styles. Able to mentor colleagues and transfer knowledge to facilitate peers’ growth
Technologically adept, with an ability to learn new software packages or languages easily. Maintains expertise on CancerLinQ, with knowledge of the data architecture and stays abreast of changes to ontologies to ensure proper

Responsibilities

Provides leadership and mentoring to junior informaticists and Cancerlinq’s staff to solve complex data problems and develop solutions.
Engages with internal partners to understand business strategy, questions, goals, and limitations. Brings structure to business requests, translates requirements into an analytical project approach, and leads complex projects through completion.
Delegates tasks and provides tactical and strategic guidance to peers.
Serves as the analytics expert on cross-functional teams for large strategic initiatives.
Analyze data in CancerLinQ data repositories to answer inquiries about the content. Assess the ability of CancerLinQ data to successfully carry out specific research projects/programs proposed by practices and customers.
Improve data quality from external sources by providing guidance on deviations from the specification for correction and resubmission.
Apply knowledge of clinical concepts to develop and maintain appropriate mapping to standard coding systems such as ICD, LOINC, NCIM, NCBIGENE, and/or SNOMED to normalize and accurately represent encoded patient data.
Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a structure to monitor and report on data quality.
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure the CancerLinQ product and business requirements are met.
Build and maintain systems that report on established data quality metrics to share in appropriate clinical and program management contexts.
Conduct data quality analysis and identify root causes to manage the resolution of issues. Identify and implement process improvements that reduce manual errors and time spent in corrective actions to free up time for more value-added tasks for themself and team members.
Ensure that clinical contexts are integrated into reports and other UIs while communicating respective findings.
Design and develop internal reports to improve the speed and standardization of the data quality checks.
Provide the methodological expertise necessary to perform analytics within clinical data repositories.
Translate abstract data quality, technical, and implementation concepts for general audiences.
Independently manage the clinical rules process to ingest native and curation data sets across multiple teams at CancerLinQ.
Help define development specifications for reports and UIs.
Lead architecture and design of technical solutions for complex informatics tasks on behalf of the team.
Perform various established technical activities, including basic SQL queries and/or Python/PySpark, related research, or data interrogation activities.
Work with the project leadership and sponsors to design, test, and deploy new system functionality.
Responsible for safeguarding CLQ protected health information data and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
Develops, owns, and manages recurring analytic and reporting processes.
Attend practice meetings and provide briefings to CLQ management and team members.
Prepares and delivers expert-level visualizations and internal presentation that translates analytic insights into tangible, actionable solutions for business partners to implement.
