About The Position

The BI Developer will serve as the subject matter expert on query development, pulling data from Epic and other sources. This role requires Epic Clarity certification, proficiency with SQL, and experience with data warehousing and architecture best practices. The position involves general duties such as representing Information Technology professionally, completing assigned tasks within scope, timelines, and budgets, and understanding the interconnectivity with EMR and third-party applications. The developer will work with internal IT teams on technical troubleshooting, integration, reporting, and training, while following department standards and procedures. Effective communication with technical and non-technical users is essential, as is alerting senior staff to any issues. Maintaining knowledge of healthcare, technology, and industry trends, along with appropriate certifications, is expected. The role includes mentoring lower-level Business Intelligence Developers, guiding the development group in analysis, design, and development, and establishing department standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Epic Clarity certification
  • Proficient with SQL
  • Experience with data warehousing and architecture best practices
  • 1 year of experience with Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3 years of experience with Associates’ Degree
  • 5 years of experience with High School Diploma
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL/ Crystal Reports
  • Ability to work independently and manage time well
  • Ability to create dashboards and reports and deliver them to clinical and business colleagues
  • Ability to maintain assigned reports, programs and systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on query development, pulling data from Epic and other sources.
  • Demonstrate ability to represent Information Technology in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Complete assigned tasks per defined project scope, timelines and budgets.
  • Understand interconnectivity and integration with EMR and third-party applications.
  • Work with internal IT teams on technical troubleshooting, integration, reporting, and training.
  • Follow department standards and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with technical team at all levels and with users at a non-technical and clinical level.
  • Alert senior staff members of any outages, problems, or delays.
  • Maintain knowledge of health care, technology and industry trends.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications.
  • Provide mentoring and assistance to lower-level Business Intelligence Developers.
  • Guide the development group in analysis, design, and development.
  • Develop and set the standards and best practices for the department.
  • Collect data regarding current IT environment and document workflows and system access.
  • Develop reports, dashboards and other outputs according to required specifications and objectives.
  • Work in conjunction with other users and departments to assist them in their decision-making process by developing worthwhile, meaningful, and informative reports.
  • Train on use of advanced functionality of dashboards and reporting tools including the design of the class curriculum.
  • Apply analytical skills to define the information requirements necessary to design, build and install upgrades and/or new implementations.
  • Make recommendations for reports based on system capabilities.
  • Develop and/or evaluate previously refined data and programs and select from a range of alternatives to determine the appropriate action to be taken.
  • Understand functionality and relationships between supported applications.
  • Review and test changes in newly released software to ensure integrity.
  • Resolve post installation technical problems in a timely manner, escalating issues as necessary to the appropriate organizational or vendor level.
  • Carry out routine duties independently.
  • Use appreciable originality on system assignments and discuss or seek approval on complex matters.
  • Research, identify, and implement solutions to special client requests or requirements and thoroughly document all identified solutions and standard operating procedures.
  • Plan independently the full range of programming actions needed to achieve desired end-results on complex problems; analyze and suggest system development tasks.
  • Monitor production systems for issues and resolve or elevate them for resolution when necessary.
  • Consider the Project Owner and manage the project to completion.
  • Develop or assist in the development of work plans, task sequencing.
  • Develop time schedules, conversion, and test procedures for all aspects of system.
  • Execute necessary investigation, analysis, and evaluation to determine project feasibility and develop project scope.
  • Assist in developing project cost and benefit estimates to establish project worth.
  • Utilize change management process.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Serve as member of various employee committees to discuss reporting needs.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments and work groups as needed.
  • Serve as a backup to related positions as needed.
  • Participate in on call rotation.
  • Provide Help Desk support as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
