Senior Backend Engineer - Identity & Real-Time Systems
About The Position
The Senior Backend Engineer will join LiveRamp’s Pixel Serving team within Identity Engineering, which serves as the gateway for real-time data workflows ranging from single-digit milliseconds to under 150 milliseconds, depending on the business use case. The team builds and owns its full technology stack and follows Scrum methodology. The role contributes to LiveRamp’s next-generation, AI-forward advertising technology stack and focuses on distributed real-time APIs and applications serving external partners, as well as cross-team data flows using modern streaming platforms. The primary language is Go, with Java and Python also used. Core technologies include Kubernetes, Redpanda, SingleStore, and Terraform, alongside Google Cloud Platform services such as BigTable, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, DataProc, and data transfer solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience deploying high-performance production code.
- 2+ years of relevant experience building and launching Minimum Viable Products quickly, scaling existing products to high volumes, and managing complex, high-reliability distributed systems.
- Strong track record of designing and building maintainable, large-scale systems.
- Comfort navigating complex, unfamiliar, and unclear problem spaces and platforms.
- Ability to translate business challenges into effective technical solutions.
- Experience mentoring and promoting engineering best practices within a team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working on 0-to-1 (new product launch) initiatives.
- Hands-on experience scaling 1-to-N (large-scale growth) distributed systems.
- Experience designing and implementing interfaces and infrastructure for high-volume services and APIs.
- Familiarity with the AdTech ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to building and scaling the next-generation, AI-forward advertising technology stack.
- Own distributed real-time APIs and applications written in Go that serve external partners.
- Help develop robust cross-team data flows using modern streaming platforms such as Redpanda.
- Continuously improve the reliability, performance, and maintainability of core production systems.
- Mentor teammates and promote engineering best practices.
