About The Position

Bright Vision Technologies is seeking a Backend Systems Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services for mission-critical workloads. The role involves architecting core platforms for other engineering teams, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, performance, and sound engineering practices. The successful candidate will apply computer science fundamentals and practical experience operating distributed systems at scale, making informed trade-offs among consistency, availability, and latency. This is a full-time, direct W2 position with Bright Vision Technologies, performed 100% remotely within the continental United States. It is an in-house, long-term, multi-year Statement of Work engagement aligned with the company’s delivery roadmap; no third-party client, vendor, or implementation partner is involved. The position offers a stated salary range of $100,000–$150,000, with competitive base salary commensurate with experience plus benefits. No new H1B sponsorship is available, but qualified candidates requiring an H1B transfer may apply. A technical coding assessment is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Six or more years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant experience with distributed systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or a similar language.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offs.
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput messaging systems such as Kafka.
  • Experience operating systems at scale, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL data stores.
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and mentorship skills.
  • Must be willing to work as a full-time direct W2 employee of Bright Vision Technologies; C2C, 1099, and third-party arrangements are not accepted.
  • A technical coding assessment is mandatory.
  • No new H1B sponsorship is available; qualified candidates currently on a valid H1B visa who require a transfer are welcome to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes-based platforms.
  • Exposure to service-mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
  • Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and tools.
  • Open-source contributions to relevant distributed systems projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement large-scale distributed backend systems using Java, Go, Scala, or similar high-performance languages.
  • Architect data partitioning, replication, and consistency strategies suited to workload requirements.
  • Build resilient APIs and event-driven services with observability, idempotency, and graceful degradation.
  • Optimize latency, throughput, and cost using profiling, benchmarking, and load testing.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and trade-off analyses.
  • Implement failure-handling patterns such as retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, bulkheads, and saga workflows.
  • Design and operate relational, key-value, document, and search data stores at scale.
  • Build service observability using structured logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.
  • Drive incident response and post-incident learning for critical backend services.
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and demonstrate strong code quality, design, and operational rigor.
  • Partner with SRE and platform teams to improve reliability and reduce operational toil.
  • Contribute to long-term architecture and platform strategy, shape multi-year technical roadmaps, and align near-term execution with broader engineering direction.
  • Maintain current technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures.
