About The Position

Bright Vision Technologies is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with deep distributed-systems expertise to design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services for mission-critical workloads. The engineer will architect core platforms used by other engineering teams, with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and sound engineering practices. The role requires strong computer science fundamentals and practical experience operating distributed systems at scale, including navigating trade-offs among consistency, availability, and latency. This is a full-time, direct W2 position that is 100% remote within the United States. The annual salary range is $100,000–$175,000. Candidates including U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, EAD holders, and H-1B transfer candidates are encouraged to apply; the company cannot sponsor new H-1B visa petitions for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Ten or more years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant experience with distributed systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or a similar language.
  • Deep understanding of distributed-systems concepts, including consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offs.
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput messaging systems such as Kafka.
  • Experience operating systems at scale, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL data stores.
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and mentorship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement large-scale distributed backend systems using Java, Go, Scala, or similar high-performance languages.
  • Architect data partitioning, replication, and consistency strategies suited to workload requirements.
  • Build resilient APIs and event-driven services with observability, idempotency, and graceful-degradation patterns.
  • Optimize latency, throughput, and cost through profiling, benchmarking, and load testing.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and trade-off analyses.
  • Implement failure-handling patterns such as retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, bulkheads, and saga workflows.
  • Design and operate relational, key-value, document, and search data stores at scale.
  • Build service observability using structured logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.
  • Drive incident response and post-incident learning for critical backend services.
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and demonstrate strong code quality, design, and operational practices.
  • Partner with SRE and platform teams to improve reliability and reduce operational toil.
  • Contribute to long-term architecture and platform strategy, help shape multi-year technical roadmaps, and align near-term execution with broader engineering direction.
  • Maintain current technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures.
