Senior Backend Engineer - Intercom
About The Position
Verkada is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its Intercom product line, a cloud-managed intercom system that provides video, two-way audio, and access-control integration. The role is part of a small, dynamic team and offers significant ownership and autonomy, including influence over the product line’s architectural direction. The engineer will collaborate with firmware, mobile, and frontend engineers to build scalable, low-latency systems and robust backend APIs for intercoms deployed around the world. The team’s plans include developing capabilities such as AI-driven visitor screening and remote environmental sensing.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of industry backend software engineering experience.
- At least 4 years of professional backend engineering experience at a rapidly growing startup or innovative company.
- Experience driving technical direction and leading engineers on project execution.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally to design complex systems and robust backend APIs.
- A history of shipping significant products and owning backend systems end-to-end.
- Ownership mentality, including resolving problems that span beyond team boundaries.
- Deep expertise with relational databases.
- Demonstrated expertise in either Python or GoLang.
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a science field.
- Excitement about new products and startups.
- Focus on delivering excellent products and experiences, rather than just features.
- Ability to take an early-stage product idea and drive it to completion.
