About The Position

As a Senior Backend Engineer on Robinhood’s Growth team, you will build experiences and systems that shape customer acquisition, activation, and long-term engagement. The team works on products tied to core company outcomes, including net funded accounts, net deposits, and Gold subscribers.

You will design and evolve reliable backend services and APIs for Robinhood Gold experiences and growth journeys. You will own projects from technical design through launch, measurement, and iteration, and work with product, design, data, and engineering partners to turn ambiguous opportunities into scalable systems. The role also involves improving reliability, performance, observability, and developer velocity; shaping architecture and technical direction; and mentoring engineers. You are expected to drive high-impact work with substantial ownership while raising execution quality and operational excellence across the team.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of building and operating backend systems in production.
• Strong proficiency in designing distributed systems, APIs, and data models for reliability and scale.
• Experience leading medium-to-large technical projects involving multiple stakeholders and clear business impact.
• Ability to work in ambiguous, fast-moving product environments and turn open-ended problems into pragmatic execution plans.
• Strong product sense and willingness to engage deeply with customer experience, experimentation, and business outcomes.
• High ownership mindset and ability to independently drive work from concept to production.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across engineering and cross-functional partners.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve backend services and APIs for Robinhood Gold experiences and growth journeys.
• Own projects end to end, from technical design through launch, measurement, and iteration.
• Partner with product, design, data, and peer engineering teams to turn ambiguous opportunities into scalable systems.
• Improve reliability, performance, observability, and developer velocity for product-facing backend systems.
• Help shape architecture and technical direction for systems supporting subscription experiences, member benefits, and engagement flows.
• Use metrics and engineering judgment to balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and hands-on collaboration.
• Drive high standards in system design, execution, and operational excellence.
