About The Position

The Codest is hiring an experienced Senior Backend Engineer (Python) with a full-stack mindset for an AI-first engineering team working on solutions for a leading financial group in Japan. The role focuses on developing modern financial applications and building scalable, reliable, high-performance backend systems. It involves designing end-to-end software solutions leveraging Databricks, including applications, services, and integrations. The engineer will own backend development, contribute to architectural decisions, and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. There may also be opportunities to contribute to frontend development using technologies such as Vue.js; advanced frontend expertise is not required, but willingness to learn and work across the application stack is valued. The team uses AI-powered development tools, coding assistants, and automation as part of everyday engineering workflows. The role offers the opportunity to influence technical decisions, explore emerging technologies, and collaborate with international teams to deliver modern software solutions.

Requirements

At least 6 years of commercial experience in Python backend development, with strong expertise in designing and building production-grade applications.
Senior-level software engineering skills, including independently designing, developing, and delivering complex technical solutions.
Strong understanding of backend architecture, REST APIs, distributed systems, and software design principles.
Experience with cloud-based application development; AWS is preferred.
Solid knowledge of object-oriented programming, clean code principles, and software engineering best practices.
Experience with CI/CD processes, version control systems, and modern development practices.
Willingness to work with frontend technologies and contribute to frontend development when required.
An AI-first mindset and openness to AI-assisted development tools, automation, and emerging technologies.
Strong problem-solving skills, independence, and a solution-oriented approach.
Ability to take ownership of technical decisions while considering scalability, performance, maintainability, and business requirements.
Advanced written and spoken English communication skills for collaboration with international clients and teams.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Databricks, including basic knowledge of the platform and its capabilities.
Practical frontend development experience using React, Vue.js, Angular, or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
Experience with Claude Code or AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
Experience developing applications in banking, fintech, or financial services.
Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
Knowledge of Linux operating systems.
Familiarity with microservices architecture and event-driven systems.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Python.
Build end-to-end software solutions leveraging Databricks, including application components, integrations, and backend services.
Design and implement REST APIs and integrate backend systems with external services.
Develop and maintain cloud-based solutions, primarily using AWS.
Own technical solutions from requirements analysis and architecture design through implementation and deployment.
Contribute to frontend development when needed, with opportunities to work with modern JavaScript frameworks.
