About the position
Webflow is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer, Product Platform to join their team. The role involves improving the stability, performance, and reliability of Webflow's platform for their millions of customers worldwide. The Senior Backend Engineer will be responsible for scaling and enhancing the rendering infrastructure, rearchitecting the core site data layer, implementing key instrumentation, and ensuring optimal performance across the platform. They will also collaborate with a distributed team to solve complex technical challenges and contribute to the planning, development, and deployment processes.
Responsibilities
- Scale and improve the rendering infrastructure to deliver world-class performance to Webflow published sites
- Contribute to rearchitecting the core site data layer to provide horizontal scaling for Webflow sites
- Identify and implement key instrumentation to provide effective visibility into key backend systems
- Ensure all backend services scale and perform across the Webflow platform at a best-in-class level
- Solve problems in a highly technical platform that empowers hundreds of thousands of people
- Improve planning, development, and deployment processes
- Tackle complex technical challenges on a collaborative and geographically distributed team
- Support in identifying interests and development opportunities and incorporating them into the role
- Lead projects, including helping scope and breakdown work
- Have an innate interest in Web Platform and Web Performance and experience or interest in technical migrations and scaling challenges
- Think through large technical problems and work through complexity on a collaborative, distributed team
- Work on complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of the company and existing architecture
- Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Take ownership and drive projects to business impact
- Deeply understand data design and modeling
- Be familiar with Node.js, Mongo, React, and Typescript
- Be familiar with Datadog, AWS products such as Lambda and Elastic Container Registry, Pulumi or other Infrastructure as Code tools, or Nginx
- Communicate trade-offs throughout a project to meet technical and business requirements
- Work in an agile, safe-to-fail environment

Requirements
- 4+ years experience leading projects, including helping scope and breakdown work
- Innate interest in Web Platform and Web Performance and experience or interest in technical migrations and scaling challenges
- Ability to think through large technical problems and work through complexity on a collaborative, distributed team
- Experience working on complex issues that require in-depth knowledge of the company and existing architecture
- Ability to debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Ownership and drive to drive projects to business impact
- Deep understanding of data design and modeling
- Familiarity with Node.js, Mongo, React, and Typescript
- Familiarity with Datadog, AWS products such as Lambda and Elastic Container Registry, Pulumi or other Infrastructure as Code tools, or Nginx
- Consistent communication of trade-offs throughout a project to meet technical and business requirements
- Comfortable working in an agile, safe-to-fail environment
- Ability to meet at least half of the qualifications
