About The Position
OEC is undergoing a multi-year transformation, migrating hundreds of services to AWS. We are seeking a Senior DBA to lead this transition, serving as our principal technical expert in database engineering. This role involves setting platform direction, driving migrations to Amazon RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL, and establishing a secure, resilient AWS-native database operating model. This is a hands-on leadership position for an individual ready to lead from day one.
Requirements
- 10–12 years of database administration experience.
- 3–5 years running AWS managed database services in production.
- Proven, hands-on expertise migrating and operating RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL at enterprise scale.
- Real experience with DMS/SCT migrations — homogeneous and heterogeneous.
- Hands-on Terraform experience provisioning AWS database infrastructure.
- Fluency in AWS security, networking, and observability tooling.
- Strong, well-reasoned architectural opinions — and the judgment to know when to push back and when to adapt.

Responsibilities
- Own migrations to AWS managed services, with RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL as target-state platforms.
- Plan and execute migrations using DMS and SCT, sequencing and validating each wave against the transformation roadmap.
- Architect multi-AZ, highly available database environments using RDS Proxy, automated failover, and AWS Backup.
- Define and implement IaC standards with Terraform, integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
- Lead cross-functional incident response and root cause analysis.
- Own performance, scalability, and observability using CloudWatch, RDS Performance Insights, DevOps Guru, and Datadog.
- Enforce security and governance via Secrets Manager, IAM database authentication, KMS, and VPC isolation.
- Mentor and grow the DBA team, building capability rather than dependency.
