About The Position

Labcorp is seeking an AWS PostgreSQL Database Administrator Intern to join our Enterprise Infrastructure team located in Durham, NC with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule! This is a 12-week paid internship program designed for students to gain real-world experience in database administration, focusing on AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and on-premises PostgreSQL databases. Interns will work on impactful projects, support the mission of improving health and lives, and gain exposure to Labcorp's global business, culture, and leadership. The program includes enterprise-wide learning experiences, leadership exposure, an in-person intern event, senior leader speaker sessions, continuous networking opportunities, and dedicated mentoring.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Information Systems.
• Rising juniors and seniors (Dec 2027 through June 2029 graduation) are preferred, but all current students pursuing related studies are encouraged to apply.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and on-premises PostgreSQL databases.
• Familiarity with database performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimization.
• Experience with database provisioning, backup, recovery, patching, and upgrades.
• Skills in troubleshooting database-related issues.
• Experience developing and maintaining automation scripts.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
• Experience with deployment automation using UrbanCode Deploy (UCD).
• Familiarity with Bitbucket repositories for source code management and version control.
• Experience with database monitoring and alerting.
• Understanding of operational best practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and on-premises PostgreSQL databases.
• Support database performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimization activities.
• Participate in database provisioning, backup, recovery, patching, and upgrade tasks.
• Assist with troubleshooting database-related issues and resolving incidents under the guidance of senior DBAs.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for database administration and operational processes.
• Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives using Terraform.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to support deployment automation using UrbanCode Deploy (UCD).
• Work with Bitbucket repositories for source code management, version control, and collaborative development.
• Assist in implementing database monitoring, alerting, and operational best practices.
• Document processes, procedures, and technical solutions.
• Participate in database migration and cloud modernization projects.
