About The Position

ch-aviation is seeking a full-time aviation journalist with native-level English proficiency to join their News team. This role is available on a long-term contractor basis or as an employee in Switzerland, Croatia, Serbia, or Thailand. The journalist will be responsible for researching and writing articles for a B2B audience, covering topics such as fleet and aircraft orders, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory news, and operational updates. The position requires knowledge of the aviation industry, business journalism, aircraft types, aviation terminology, regulations, and legal frameworks. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with international sources, working independently, and collaborating with the editorial team. A strong understanding of global geopolitical events and a passion for civil aviation are essential. The job is remote-based, with initial in-person training and subsequent remote supervision.

Requirements

  • Mother-tongue-level knowledge of English
  • Experience writing in English remotely
  • Aviation industry knowledge
  • General business journalism knowledge
  • Knowledge of aircraft types, aviation terminology, regulations, and legal frameworks
  • Disciplined, analytically oriented mindset
  • Ability to work within the established writing style guide and set timeframes
  • Cooperate with the editorial team to provide high-quality content
  • Strong sense of global geo-political events
  • Capable of working independently and coordinating with a team over remote communication tools
  • Strong passion for and background knowledge of civil aviation
  • Experience in journalism
  • Knowledge of the civil and/or business aviation world
  • Several verifiable unedited pieces, in English, for reference
  • C2-level of English language, both oral and written
  • Ability to properly structure an English news article using in-house guidelines
  • Verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, critical thinking
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with colleagues, problem-solve, self-organize, manage own work schedule and time, meet hard and soft deadlines
  • Ability to analyse, develop and write your own articles
  • Ability to keep data and information confidential
  • Strong digital research skills, including advanced use of search engines and online databases to track down leads and verify information
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowing multiple languages is a plus
  • Previous newsroom experience is a plus
  • Previous experience working in a multi-cultural, multi-national environment
  • Knowledge of Boolean search terms
  • Language skills in multiple languages are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Independently research and review aviation-related articles which may or may not be in English
  • Cultivate sources at airlines/companies/governments from across the globe
  • Do additional research to corroborate/clarify reports
  • Extract from said articles, information relevant to the ch-aviation market context
  • Create unique English-based articles featuring said extracts as well as other information you deem useful to the piece
  • Work to set deadlines
  • Work with the editorial team to ensure set standards and quality are maintained
  • Develop sources and maintain interpersonal relationships with key players in the industry
  • Travel from time to time, both as a reporter and to meet with the international team of journalists
