About The Position

The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority is seeking a full-time Journalist for the News and Public Affairs Department in Oklahoma City. The position involves general assignment television reporting for OETA’s weekly program, Oklahoma News Report (ONR), the station website, and current and future media platforms, including social media. The Journalist travels across the state with a news photographer to develop and produce stories about Oklahoma’s communities, especially non-metro areas.

Requirements

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
Ability to travel long distances in a state vehicle, including some overnight travel; expenses are reimbursed at rates provided by Oklahoma law.
Ability to produce high-quality news content across all platforms on deadline.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.
Two to five years of journalistic experience, including reporting, writing, narration, and on-camera presentation.
Ability to take personal initiative to develop stories consistent with the mission of the OETA News and Public Affairs Department and the agency strategic plan.
Strong reporting, critical thinking, teamwork, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
Knowledge of Oklahoma politics, laws, culture, economy, geography, history, tribal affairs, and topics of statewide interest.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional demeanor and demonstrated ability to build relationships with the public and represent OETA positively within the community.
