About The Position

WWL WUPL-TV New Orleans, the CBS/MNTV TEGNA affiliate, is seeking an experienced Multiskilled Journalist to create distinctive, memorable, well-written stories for distribution across platforms. The journalist will combine strong reporting and storytelling with photography, editing, and digital production, using multi-platform approaches beyond traditional television news. A current driver’s license and the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Requirements

• A current driver’s license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
• Solid news judgment, strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making skills.
• Strong writing, production, and tease-writing skills.
• Organizational skills and ability to work under constant deadlines.
• Ability to calmly handle live breaking-news situations and changing events.
• Demonstrated ability to create social and digital content.

Nice To Haves

• 1–3 years of reporting experience preferred.
• Experience with ENPS, EDIUS, and Axis graphics preferred.
• Knowledge of New Orleans is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform authoritative, compelling live shots during developing stories and breaking news.
• Develop story ideas and identify sources in the community who can provide information about events and areas of expertise.
• Identify, write, and produce stories within a specific framework.
• Research facts and verify credibility.
• Maintain and develop sources to strengthen reporting.
• Shoot, write, produce, and edit on-air and online content within deadlines.
• Use creative production techniques, including graphics and new forms of media such as viewer pictures and webcam interviews, to enhance stories.
• Use social media and digital tools to research, discover, and distribute content.
• Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.
• Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
