About The Position

This Senior Attorney position is in the Office of the Attorney General with the Executive Unit "Library Services Unit" in Tallahassee, Florida. The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Requirements

  • Admission to The Florida Bar
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law.
  • A degree of Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Membership in the Florida Bar
  • Complete and accurate application profile necessary for qualifying such as dates of service, reason for leaving, etc.
  • All employment and/or detailed information about work experience must be listed on the application (including military service, self-employment, job-related volunteer work, internships, etc.) and that gaps in employment are explained.
  • Applicant responses to qualifying questions must be verifiable by skills and/or experience stated on the employment application and/or resume.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in formulating, interpreting, and administering policies for the Legal Resource Center Law Library.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Continuous Legal Education programs for all governmental attorneys statewide.
  • Research, recommend, develop and administer briefbanks for use by all state governmental agencies.
  • Provide reference services and research and bibliographic services to legal staff.
  • Perform legal research and review of periodical and book lists.
  • Coordinate training sessions, supervise the use of, and perform legal research using computer assisted legal research services, i.e., Westlaw and LEXIS.
  • Study and write reports on all available databases currently being used by state governmental agencies.
  • Develop methods by which each agency can contribute to and use these databases.
  • Develop surveys, interpret results, and write reports to accomplish these duties.
  • Identify economical approaches to the purchase of legal research materials, printed and electronic, and assist, upon request, in the negotiation of discounted rates for these materials for use by all state governmental agencies.
  • Review and approve all law library purchases, supervise library inventory, resolve problems with library vendors, maintain court slip opinions, inventory and dispose of materials as required by surplus property rules.
  • Direct and supervise the law library staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Administer performance evaluations, approve and monitor leave schedules, interview and select new staff members, and make recommendations on employee tenure.
  • Participate in at least forty hours of professional development annually.
